A Muslim man is suing an airline over claims he was marched off a plane by police after "innocently" mentioning 9/11.

Mohammad Khan, from north London, alleged Virgin Atlanticstaff "racially and religiously profiled" him over a "harmless" conversation with a flight stewardess and another passenger. The 26-year-old said he was escorted off his flight from London Heathrow to Atlanta, Georgia, following a "massive overaction" by cabin crew.

The Middlesex University graduate was travelling to the US for an interview for a business internship in Medellin, Colombia.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

For someone who expects sensitivity of others, he sure doesn't seem to recognize his own due diligence of respecting the concerns of others.

The tolerance for nonsense on a flight is virtually nil. As a traveler to and from anywhere, my suggestion is, given videos of people taken off flights for protesting against political candidates, as well, is shut one's mouth and fly from A to B. Being on a plane is the wrong time to try and send a message.

Not really enough info in that article for me to pass judgement on this either way. it would be nice to see some eyewitness statements.

i would think anyone talking about security or increase of security with a stewardess 'innocently' would raise some eyebrows. why would anyone do that?

Mr Khan told the London Evening Standard: "I totally innocently said ‘there’s been more security since 9/11’, then asked the stewardess 'I bet your job has changed since 9/11', but she looked stunned."

I agree it's odd, but if that was the extent of it I don't think it's enough to have him removed from the plane.

Further in the article it states that police accepted it was a misunderstanding, which kind of sides with the passenger as to this being an innocent conversation that was taken out of context.

He said he was not formally interviewed by police, who accepted there had been a "misunderstanding". But Virgin Atlantic would not allow him back in the flight, on 8 January last year.

i've never worked on an airplane before but i wonder how often anyone starts talking about security and 9/11 on a flight. maybe it happens all the time, i don't know. weird if it does.

i see that virgin offered to refund his tickets..the whole thing seems opportunist to me. but yeah, turning the flight around and removing him from the plane is a bit much.

I've never witnessed it, but I'm probably not a good guage for this seeing I only fly once or twice a year. I wouldn't think 9/11 and flight security would be a hot topic while sitting on the tarmac preparing for take off, but who knows how it got to that point, just look at the threads here and the crazy directions they veer off on.

Probably went down like this

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Perhaps he mentioned Allahu Akbar?

That has been known to get the Islamophobes wetting their pants.
