@mimikadoHere in VA, I was issued my DL Dec 2017 and it's valid until 2025. Still no new extension letter though.

Have to say you are in a lucky position there in VA! Here in AZ (along with quite a few other states by the looks of it), your driver's license is only valid through the expiry of your extension letter; hence why a lot of us are scrambling to get I-551 stamps so we can extend our licenses.

Arrff! I am jealous ! I m gonna move to Virginia ^^

About making an appointment for this famous stamp I-511, every time I go to the website, they keep telling me there is no opening available for this week at my local USCIS center... for 3-4 weeks... Do I do something wrong?

In short: No, you haven't done anything wrong.

Take my situation for instance - I have been monitoring the InfoPass website for a couple of weeks now looking for an open appointment time and it was only this morning (by complete fluke that I was looking at 7 AM) that new slots opened up and became available.

Some offices (possibly yours included) seemingly rarely have any open time slots available, and when they do, they fill up fast. I know I was sitting on pins and needles hoping for an appointment to get my stamp, as my license is dependent upon the extension as well. When so much rides on that extension or getting an I-551 stamp, it becomes more than frustrating that offices never have appointments available.

Not that I would recommend it, but I have read about others even travelling out of state to less busy USCIS offices for an I-551 stamp; I'd only recommend doing that if you are getting dangerously close to your expiration date with no local appointments available.

Best of luck on getting an appointment.

here it is.....https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment      zip code is 89519

I made mine for the 13th.....lucky Friday the 13th!

Is Reno the closest office to you?

I'll just gag if they turn me away again....especially knowing CSC is way way way backed up that they are taking extra long not just with processing I-751 but in acknowledging the new apps too.

No I believe there is an office in Sacramento. I am still holding out ( hahaha) for the extra extension letter  but if nothing by late next week, I will try for an Infopass appointment.

@tdotca I’m Sacramento too! I’ve almost never seen other Sac people on here. Please post back if you successfully get an appointment. I’m not going to try for one until August as my GC expiration isn’t till then and I don’t want to risk being turned away for being more than a month out.

I am actually in Antelope. I tried https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment  and entered my zip. The site says the local office is Capitol Mall which I believe is where I went to do my 1st interview ( to get the temp GC). however it says "ATTENTION: This USCIS office is temporarily not accepting walk-in requests or scheduling InfoPass appointments for information services. Appointments for document services (such as passport stamps and advance parole) and true emergencies can be made online at my.uscis.gov/help/schedule."    If I go to  my.uscis.gov/help/schedule, there is a form to fill in which I did not complete. I hope if /when I do I can choose which day I would like.

Hi. Newbie here although I’ve been following the thread for a while. My initial extension letter expires next month and after struggling to get an info pass appt at my local office (Houston) for weeks, I got lucky and found openings at the Dallas office which I jumped on. I got my I-551 stamp this morning and it was a fairly simple process and lasted less than 30 minutes. However the lady told me that I was eligible for one I-551 stamp every year until I got my 10-year card. And I gave her a surprise look and she said yeah it shows that I am currently waiting on an interview and they are backed up so chances are I’d still be waiting next year. Sigh.

Hi All.

Just finished browsing a bit.  It appears from lurking in other months prior to us July filers, that CSC filers have received notices that their cases have been transferred to NBC 'to speed up processing'.  These are non-N400 filers.  There were also a few in January 2017 that received I-751 approvals, also at CSC....3 if I recall correctly.  And somewhere I read, sorry can't remember where, that someone got their 18 month extension to extension letter.....however, it wasn't clear to me by their dates and lack of profile of when they originally filed their I-751.  I have noted on occasion posters accidentally post to July 2017 thinking its July 2018.

Movement at CSC is a good thing!!!  :)

Excellent update, thank you.

I agree, any movement out of CSC is a good thing, even if it is a ways back into the 2017 year. I am actually somewhat shocked that the backlog is as such that some cases are being transferred to the NBC; I can't imagine it's typical to have that happen, no? Let alone the fact that even USCIS, with their perpetual moving of the time processing goal posts, recognizes just how bad the situation is.

Nonetheless, I have not received any such updates just as an FYI. I have an InfoPass appointment within the next two weeks to get an I-551 stamp, so I will post back once that happens.
