The wheels of the bus go round and round...

"Rand Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, announced that they would oppose it without changes — more than enough to bring it down."

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans, who for seven years have promised a repeal of the Affordable Care Act, took a major step on Thursday toward that goal, unveiling a bill to make deep cuts in Medicaid and end the law’s mandate that most Americans have health insurance.

The 142-page bill would create a new system of federal tax credits to help people buy health insurance, while offering states the ability to drop many of the benefits required by the Affordable Care Act, like maternity care, emergency services and mental health treatment.

And here is the link to the bill:

I heard a lengthy interview of Sen. Cruz about the subject, and chief among his concerns is to lower premiums.  The current bill doesn't have enough teeth for this.  I agree with his reasoning.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I also think that it will not make premiums go down. It will manage to get some 23 million Americans out of the insurance pool, reduce coverage to others, and in the end, premiums will end up going up. I'd rather they took their time to come up with something that actually addresses whatever shortcomings the ACA has.

Why can't we all get the same coverage members of congress get?

rand paul was laying it down this morning for what it is, an insurance company bailout. 'hey if we give you a bunch of money- will you please be nice and play insurance with us?"

It's time to pay back the piper, or in Trump's case, pipers. Remember he said in the inaugural speech that every single decision he would make would have the American people's best interest in mind.

I thought he had plan to send them millions of cans of WD-40 so they'd get rid of all the rust, while the Trump organization buys steel from China.

i wouldn't be surprised if trump doesn't know what wd40 is.  he doesn't even know about driving on the green and golf is sort of his thing..

He also stated he'd like everyone to be able to buy insurance at the cost of about $1 a day. I'd like to know how he'd think that would work exactly....

yeah, i heard that too. that's the thing with rand, he says something completely reasonable and dead on and then immediately follows it up with a major 'huh?' moment..to be fair that's more of a libertarian thing not just rand (or his dad ^_^)

Yeah I know, I don't get it. I'd totally support him if he could start making better sense most days. I think to get health insurance that low we'd need tens of thousands of different companies in the pool.

I think that the $1-2 a day is more for catastrophic insurance and not regular insurance.

Part of the problem in the US is that people wait until catastrophe to take care of often preventable issues that would be a lot better if taken care of earlier.

It's an utter mess, and if what Paul is saying is right about this being Obamacare lite, it's going to be as much a disaster as Obamacare, even if it does one or two good things I like such as defund Planned Parenthood.

I could not agree with you more on this. They are trying to roll this out without actually taking the time to iron out the details of it in hopes people will just pass it. Does this remind you of 2008/2009 when the Democrats did this as well with Obamacare? I think planned parenthood needs to go away honestly since the majority of centers are not about women's preventive care or actually helping pregnant women at all, they are more concerned with abortion.
