Delta Air Lines and Bank of America have pulled their sponsorship of a Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar in New York over a portrayal of the assassinated Roman leader that resembles Donald Trump.

The contemporary staging of Shakespeare’s tragedy, by the nonprofit Public Theater, portrays Caesar as a blond-haired, powerful man wearing a business suit with an American flag pin, while his wife, Calpurnia, has a Slavic accent and dresses in designer fashions.

Shakespeare’s play focuses on the fatal stabbing of Caesar by former associates, and the subsequent fate of Rome’s political institutions.

Delta said in a statement on Sunday that the Public Theater’s “artistic and creative direction crossed the line on the standards of good taste”.

“No matter what your political stance may be, the graphic staging of Julius Caesar at this summer’s Free Shakespeare in the Park does not reflect Delta Air Lines’ values,” the statement said.

Bank of America later said it would withdraw financial support from the production alone, rather than the theatre itself. A spokeswoman, Susan Atran, said: “The Public Theater chose to present ‘Julius Caesar’ in a way that was intended to provoke and offend”.

Can't disagree with the parts in bold by the way the article describes the play. Just another group of liberal snowflakes calling in an indirect way for the assassination of Trump.

They have a first amendment right to portray whatever they want in a play. People who are disgusted with what they are portraying also have a right to pull funding from and boycott them as a firm of protest. No one is calling for censoring them. But people who oppose them do have a right to pull funding from and boycott them.

Wonder if they did a version with a Black Community Organiser?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

A "snowflake" is one who is easily offended. In this case the easily offended parties are Delta and BOA. Delta and BOA are the snowflakes here.

If this were another country it wouldn't even be mentioned in the foreign press, but I can see where in our country, with all the alt-right militias and their agenda, someone might wake up in their parents' basements one day, and think it would be a good idea to try an attempt against the life of the people they see portrayed in the play.

The production company has every right to produce the play, but I'd leave anything dealing with the so-called president and his family of grifters to the purview of SNL. They are doing a killer job already.

Either way, they are the snowflakes in this case.
