The only way I find this could be beneficial(and I said it before in a different thread) is if they took the extra revenue and used it to subsidize healthier drinks like 100% juice. Although I think it's dumb diet isn't included as it's often just as bad if not worse than regular in many ways.

Honestly invest it in improving access to clean drinking water. 100% juice isn't all that great for people either, especially children.

Not all juices are created equal. 100% Cranberry juice, for example, does actually have some health benefits. That said, as we all have said and already acknowledged water is of course the best. But given the choice between soda and juice, juice would be a no brainer for me.

Ya sorry I admit I didn't actually read pages 2-4 before making my comment ;)

Yes there are health benefits to juice, but the problem (again I'm thinking about children) is just like "soda" sugary drinks we end up consuming far far too much. Even if you just went around and asked people what a "cup of juice" looked like, people tend to vastly overestimate the volume. Everyone is used to Venti-sized containers, and 20 oz sodas that juice becomes no different.

I once got suspended for not reading pages 2-4.

Pretty much. The body doesn't care whether there's Vitamin C in the excess, it still has the same effects on the liver, brain, and heart. But to OriZ's credit he did clarify how little of the juice one should drink. Unfortunately the way society acts though is different.

Sounds like I should have just read 3 more pages and not said anything then :) Oriz covered it, as usual.

Isn't it great to have first world problem like this, and discuss what we should or shouldn't eat/drink? /sarcasm off

If only that was the end of this issue.

The problem is excess simple carbohydrates (sugar being a prime example) has created an epidemic of health issues: obesity and umbrella comorbidities such as liver disease, heart disease, diabetes, insulin resistance, kidney disease, pancreatic disease, gum disease/tooth decay, metabolic syndrome, psychoactive addiction, hormonal imbalance (extremely underestimated) and so on. Americans really don't seem to understand the problems with excess garbage foods until it's too late. For many of these diseases by the time symptoms show up they're already in advanced stages.

Interesting that they are treating Starbucks with kid gloves.  Regardless, Seattle is relatively small, and it's borders are unprotected, so like I said in an earlier comment, the stores in the suburbs will probably see an uptick in business.

If you have the means and resources  to pick up and travel out there to shop.

I don't think the public transportation ends at the border in Seattle.
