Saudi Arabia broke diplomatic relations and all land sea and air contacts with fellow Gulf Arab state Qatar on Monday, saying the move was necessary to protect the kingdom from what it described as terrorism and extremism.

The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt also cut ties with Qatar on Monday.

Saudi Arabia's official state news agency, citing an official source, said the kingdom had decided to sever diplomatic and consular relations with Qatar "proceeding from the exercise of its sovereign right guaranteed by international law and the protection of national security from the dangers of terrorism and extremism".

Saudi Arabia cut all land air and sea contacts with Qatar "and urges all brotherly countries and companies to do the same."

The country where people are executed for allegedly practicing witch craft, has a problem with extremism in Qatar?

I know some of y'all don't understand this but this is VERY bad and is seriously like two steps before a war. Considering I have been to all of the countries listed I would hate this for everyone involved.

All of this honestly does not surprise me at all considering the new Emir of Qatar. When I lived in Qatar under his father it was a well known secret that his son the High Prince now Emir was a supporter of Islamic Terrorism. He said some stuff and it was reported to the world, then several hours later after the damage was done they tried to say the news agency was hacked.

Two threads on this topic have been merged.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I hope your friends over there are safe.

the FBI is believed to be helping Qatar investigate the source of the hacking. (As an aside, the Qatari Royal family invest heavily in western modern art and appear to uses ex-SAS soldiers for personal protection...at least when in NY)

Etihad has suspended all flights to Qatar. Qatari diplomats have been given 48 hours to leave Bahrain.

as there is no deputy assistant Secretary of State for Arabian peninsula affairs, and many many positions unfilled at State level in the WH, there is increased risk of spiralling in situations like this...

Jared with his flak jacket can't handle something on a scale like this. With the $100M in arms US is selling to Saudi...

Qatar's outreach to Iran has always displeased the Saudis...this could get ugly.

Qatar needs to secure food imports...

Yeah the people that we know still in Doha are good as of right now. But I seriously doubt this is a "hacking of the news agency". The graphic below is what I pulled from Alarabiya about the whole timeline of the comments and the "hacking".

Great stuff...who finances al arabiya?

Great stuff...who finances al arabiya?

Launched on 3 March 2003,[5][6] the channel is based in Dubai Media City, United Arab Emirates, and is owned by Saudi broadcaster Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC).

The current general manager of Al Arabiya is Adel Al Toraifi, who took over that post from Abdulrahman Al Rashed on November 22 2014.[7]

A free-to-air channel, Al Arabiya broadcasts standard newscasts as well as talk shows and documentaries. These programs cover current affairs, business and financial markets, and sports. It is rated among the top pan-Arab stations by Middle East audiences.[8] The channel has been criticized for having a "pro-Saudi agenda",[9] and it was once banned in Iraq by the US-installed Governing Council for "incitement to murder" after broadcasting audio tapes of Saddam Hussein.[8]

On 26 January 2009, American president Barack Obama gave his first formal interview as president to the television channel.[10]

It is more of a Pro-Saudi news site just like Aljazeera is a Pro-Qatari news site. They are basically the Foxnews/CNN equivalents in the Gulf.

Ahh so it's Saudi owned and they have no interest in making the Qataris look bad...hmm.

thanks for the research btw. It's all about Iran imo, but I could be wrong. At least things haven't escalated so far?

Yeah pretty much it's all about Iran and I have known that for days now. It was right after Trump left the ME that it started escalating due to the Emir's comments about Iran and Trump. Which we all know that Saudi Arabia and Iran do not get along at all. But I have been reading the news from both channels and it is quite funny actually to hear how both sides are telling the story. Just like with the article below:

So is this more or less, "you have not taken a public hardline against Iran therefore you are against us?"

Yeah originally but the Emir actually came out in support of Iran in which they have to have a day to day relationship with. The tensions have been building up for some time now because of their support of Hezbollah, Hamas, and the MB. But this was reported last week: It was also reported on Tuesday that the Qatari Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, had said that Doha has “tensions” with the Trump administration, and acknowledged that Iran is an “Islamic power.”

“There is no wisdom in harboring hostility toward Iran,” he said, adding that President Donald Trump is facing legal issues in his home country as claims over his Russia links continue. The Emir made his remarks during a graduation ceremony for new army recruits.

The Emir said Al-Udeid Air Base, which houses both Qatari Air Force and US Air Force, is protecting Doha from some neighboring countries, without mentioning any names. The military base, southwest of Doha, has long been a symbol of US-Qatari alliance.

So if the US is not protecting Qatar from Iran then who are we helping protect them from, KSA maybe? Also this past weekend some hackers released some cables between the UAE and a Pro-Israeli US think tank and I think was the cherry on top of all this.

al jazeera has been a thorn in the side of the power base in the ME for a long time...they would love to see them go away

It has been especially in the last 5-7 years since the Arab Spring came about. Some of the countries involved like Egypt for example has jailed journalists from Al-Jazeera with no charges. So this is not at all surprising to me, but I still read it to see the varying degrees of slant that they have.
