When to submit I-751

My husband's GC expiration date is 12/10/2017. I know our 90 day window opens on 9/11/2017. The issue is, we are going to be out of the country approximately from 09/20/22017- 10/05/2017 (dates might slightly vary). So I am wondering whether to submit the package on 09/11/2017 and then go on our trip OR go on the trip and then drop the package in the mail? 

I am already working on putting everything together because I don't want to rush last minute and when the time comes I just want to mail it out at the correct date. 

 

I know it's only May but because of our travel plans I would like to be prepared. Thank you!

Why would you not submit it on 9/11/2017 if you have everything ready to go?

The only issue I can see here is your biometrics schedule. Because usually they sent you the schedule of your biometrics a month after they received your application.

I would submit it before you leave for your trip. It took us 2 months until we had our appointment. The I751 processing is rumored to be taking 2 years now so a week or two won't make a big difference. The current processing times aren't realistic. We've been waiting since August and they've been working on May applications for 6 months.

Because we are going to be out of the country for a few weeks and I was not sure if that makes a difference. Now I realize it's better to submit and go on our trip

If they haven't changed their system, Biometrics appointment comes for a date approximately 1 month after the submission. Because you would be submitting to Vermont Service Center, I'd recommend sending your package on Day 1 of your eligibility since they are crazy slow for ROCs. It would help if there is someone who could keep an eye on your mails while you are goine. By some chance if your biometrics appointment is scheduled for a date while you are out of country, you could always ask them to re-schedule. You could argue 20 days delay shouldn't change things much but when it comes to VSC, a 20 day delay could mean more than a few months delayed adjudication. Nevertheless, if you don't want to go through this missing the biometrics appointment stress, send your package the day after you come back.

I already know ROC will take longer than 3 months, so on which date should we request the extension letter and how do I do that? Should we also request the I-551 stamp in his passport and is that only possible during an infopass?
