Ahhh, gotcha.  Different country, different rules, I would suspect.

Even now, the 117 rest rules are different (improved for the pilots' benefit) in America than they were back in 2011.  And airlines are improving their rules to attract more pilots as the wave of retirees is about to start rising towards its crest.

From my understanding because it's mainly a seasonal  into the USA and other countries the rules are supposed to be comparable

Might be, and for sure, they must comply with FAA rules when in US airspace (just as US pilots must comply with the different rules in Canadian airspace).  But that would not necessarily apply to contract stuff nor treatment of employees.  Things HAVE been getting better in the US as regards rules for pilots.  Hopefully Canadia has followed suit.

From my understanding it's the flight attendants that get screwed out of benefits and good contracts most of the time

Yes, they are subject to different rules for rest and such. I guess because they are not at the controls, so lives are not in their hands quite the same way as the pilots.  Though a FA has much more interaction with the passengers, and can make the difference between happy customers and mad ones much more so than a pilot on any given day.

Yes except now unfortunately there needs to be a small footnote that says:

"The single doctor that doesn't recommend United was previously under investigation for trading prescriptions for sex, and had his license revoked for a decade"

Not the most "trustworthy" guy.

United Airlines just lost $800 million in value

Ouch. All that overbooking revenue down the drain.

As we know these "losses" are all paper ones. They haven't physically lost that in revenue or cash (as much as they deserve to). The shares will drop sufficiently enough for bargain share hunters to enter the fray to try and make a quick buck. The share price will recover soon enough. (Wall Street has a very short term memory) barring any further PR disaster.

What will be interesting is to take note of their metrics come the next quarter re bookings. If the "boycott" is sustained they will face real losses of income  to the business at that point. That might make institutions rather unhappy and provide difficulties to the aurline in raising potential capital should they need it.

I'm sure there are plenty of pensions invested in this company so I wouldn't be rooting for it to fail just yet, unless your pension company has extracated itself altogether (doubtful).

Personally there should be a financial penalty to pay which is commensurate with the incident at hand and the following aftermath of the CEO comments which I find just as abhorrent as the assault (which is what it was, sugar coat it however you want with personnel "only doing their job").

They lost $1200 from me. I booked Air Canada from Denver to Vancouver in June. I usually fly 3-4 times a year, and previously always with United. They won't lose a billion, but not all of the losses are on paper.
