3 arrested in Atlanta fire underneath interstate bridge

Dont know if yall saw this. Man Atlanta is in a Mess. They have declared a state of emergency. Atlanta Traffic is already bad. This shuts down a major major interstate for months.

ATLANTA –  Three people have been arrested in connection with the raging fire that collapsed a portion of Interstate 85 a few miles north of downtown Atlanta, crippling a major traffic artery in a city already known for dreadful rush-hour congestion.

Deputy Insurance Commissioner Jay Florence said Friday evening that Basil Eleby faces a charge of criminal damage to property, and Sophia Bruner and Barry Thomas each were charged with criminal trespass.

We had a similar issue a few years ago in Detroit.  A tanker crashed under an overpass and the resulting fire closed I75 for months.  In this case it wasn't malicious but it was still a great big pain.

Ditto here, a section of I-5 got knocked out by a semi and the alternative routing was horrible for months until it was replaced. I wonder if the people arrested started the fire malisciously, accidentally, or if they are being made scapegoat's in Atlanta.

What a cluster! Traffic in the 85 used to be terrible in the early morning on Sundays. Having it blocked will probably cause a great deal of havoc for locals and for everyone else traveling through Atlanta.

Loss of a major freeway is indeed not funny. Our little slice of heaven has virtually no off I-5 traffic issues but being just south of the Canadian border the tiny section of bridge being knocked out put all of the I-5 travellers going north and south on side streets. I imagine that the problems for Atlanta will be exponentially worse.

You can't imagine.  The I 85 400 corridor is already a nightmare. State of emergency has been declared

You can get a drink a the ATL airport. However one time I flew to Iron Mnt Michigan on Biz. I had to go thru Ohare. There must have been a "true Bar" every 10 feet.

When I went 3 years ago to visit my great grandmother they refused to open any bars until like 12 or 1, citing some stupid bylaw about not being able to sell booze before then. Of course by that time my flight was already gone.

 

Forever on the naughty list, Atlanta.
