TOKYO — The Trump administration made a clear break Thursday with diplomatic efforts to talk North Korea out of a nuclear confrontation, bringing the United States and its Asian allies closer to a military response than at any point in more than a decade.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that 20 years of trying to persuade North Korea to abandon its nuclear program had failed and that he was visiting Asia “to exchange views on a new approach.”

Soon after Tillerson’s remarks, in a sign of mounting tensions, the North Korean Embassy held an extraordinary news conference in Beijing to blame the potential for nuclear war on the United States while vowing that its homegrown nuclear testing program will continue in self-defense.

.Honestly this is alot of NK's doing diplomatically. They have been walking around like a small little guy trying to punk people out to make themselves feel better. It really started last month when they killed Kim Jong Nam in Malaysia with watered down VX nerve agent. They have not assisted at all with the investigation, and they are are even harboring wanted people in the NK embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Then last week they launched those 4 ballistic missiles in to the Sea of Japan which caused even more escalation. The podcast I listen to for foreign policy information talked about it in great detail, clearly saying that the number of missiles were a clear indication and not chance. It represents the four countries that they are pissed at right now China, Japan, SK, and finally the USA.

Also since they launched those four missiles SK asked us to deploy a Anti-Ballistic Missile shield, and so we did. NK has since said that it is a cause for war.

The Trump administration gave its clearest signal yet that it would consider military action against North Korea, with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson saying Friday that “all options are on the table.”

“Certainly we do not want for things to get to a military conflict, we’re quite clear on that in our communications, but obviously if North Korea takes actions that threaten the South Korean forces or our own forces, then that would be met with an appropriate response,” Tillerson said at a press conference in Seoul with Yun Byung-se, the South Korean foreign minister.

North Korea has said that it is working on an intercontinental ballistic missile capable of striking the United States’ mainland, and has shown clear progress in its missile program in tests over the last year.

This does worry me a bit as I have a lot of friends in South Korea, and would not want to see an armed conflict.  Personally I think we need to just keep doing anything we can to get information to those in the DPRK, it seems to be having some effect as there are some free market activities being formed there, and the people are getting some news about how their leadership acts.  We shall see, but I would like to see a peaceful reunification.

North Korea is super scared of Donald Trump and is trying to get the war back on track. The Trump circus is perfect for that. Two months in and Trump just might get that nuclear genie out of the pesky bottle.

Good thing Donald Trump wants to gut the State Department. Who needs experts with decades of diplomatic experience when you have the biglyist best people that loves them some Breitbart on your brakeless train?

At what point did we decide that PRNK was going to be considered an adult in the room?

Peaceful solutions are for snowflakes. Bomb them off the map. If China doesn't like it, ditto for them.

Peaceful solutions do have place and it should be at the beginning of the process not at an end. But the problem with NK is that we have been doing for so many years that they are accostom to it now so their game plane is: raise some cain and threaten war, then at the last minute ask for concessions and money for "the people", and then keep doing what they were doing in the past. It is not working with them, and now they don't have China in their back pocket anymore after they pissed them off as well.

When they start acting like an adult and a petulant child. Sometimes what a disobedient child needs is a good ### whoopin before they start acting right.

They're nothing without China in their corner. They've been playing this game since the tree cutting incident.

Of course, but the question we should be asking is ourselves is, why does China care about North Korea? Hint: something to do with Bejings proximity to North Korea and US military bases in South Korea. Not to mention Japan's own security concerns.
