2017 Post NOA2 for Cuba K1 - getting ready for interview

I have a couple questions:

1. On the I134 form for the Affidavit of Support, what did you guys put for the Alien Registration Number (A-Number) (if any) on Page 2, Part 2 on Information About the Beneficiary?

Did you put the A Number that appears above the beneficary's name on the NOA2 approval form?  There is a A-number in the 'BENEFICIARY' box.  Are you guys using this number anywhere in the I134 form?

2. I heard people were checking "Yes" on question 38 and then putting on Part 7 "N/A K1 VISA APPLICATION."  Is that what you guys are doing?

Thanks!

I have a question:  What are other people doing for the medical exam date?  Do you have to make an 'appointment' for the medical exam in Cuba?

My fiance is being told he can just go 1 month + a few days before his interview date to pay for his exam and they will do the exam exactly 1 month before his interview.

I was hoping he could pay now and get an appointment date for 1 month before his interview date, but to set it up now.  And they are not allowing him to do it that way.

How are you guys doing the medical exam appointment?

Thanks,
Forena

Hi Forena99!!

My fiance had called to make an appointment for the medical exam but they told him in Habana that they were not scheduling appointments for May embassy appointments just yet. My fiance is going to call again this week. I'll let you know what they tell him :)

Hello Forena!

Thanks to your post I realized USCIS had updated I-134 on December and that last years are no longer valid. So now I am going to do the new forms.

I did put the A### ### ### number in the Noa2. But I just realized this! Thank you for making me look twice at this Noa2. Online other people have done the same.

On the previous i-134 form, the samples I read said not to put anything and state the "N/A K1 VISA APPLICATION" you mention. But now since the format is different I have to do more research. I'll let you know what I find :)

Hi @CubaAndChill,

I would try to get as comprehensive a story as you can for his background check.  Consider what we as USCs have to go through to get our NOA2 approved.  The CSC has to do a very thorough check on us before approving our petition - mostly from the FBI (but also could be CIA, DEA, U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control, Interpol, and the Department of State's Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation) as well as Police records.   As for the beneficiary, all he is responsible for at the interview is the Police records part.  I would imagine you would want to be as thorough as possible and try to piece together as complete story as possible from all the places you would need/can get records from.  I would try to avoid gaps.  Have you tried asking at the place that gives out the police records?  They maybe able to give you more specific info on what is available and what is needed.  My beneficiary is in Holguin and they have been helpful in answering questions once he tells them what he is trying to do.  I *thought* there was a place you could go where you get the entire history for the country of Cuba, but that might of been bc my fiance hasn't lived in another city.  But I would see if you can get something like that and just ask at the office locally where he is (I forget the name of it right now) if it should satisfy the requirement bc they do this sort of thing more often.

As for a list, TatiyPablo made a good one earlier, just search earlier in the thread.  I've been thinking of doing a more comprehensive one for me, so if I can do that I will share.

Forena

Thank you Forena!

I looked on the USCIS website and it says that he needs a police certificate from every country he's resided in for more than a year. He's in Argentina right now, but will be going back to Cuba in July so it'll only have been 5 months that he was residing in Argentina. Since it's less than 6 months he won't need one. I hope it doesn't hurt anything, but I didn't put the address he's staying at in Argentina on the G325A either. He doesn't receive any mail or anything there and is in Argentina on a student visa... Hopefully it doesn't matter because it's a different visa, but if they ask when I go to the interview I can try explain to their satisfaction why I thought it wasn't needed *prays* lol. I finally sent out our package today though, so pray for me!

My fiance and I decided to put no, on this question. Once you put yes, it asks rank and a bunch of other things that don't apply to the kind of military service he did :) I don't know what other from Cuba gave done for this, I could not find any feedback online. But evaluating the questions and his service, saying no to this question made sense to us.

Hello @forena99,

I am tracking my package on its way to the Cuban embassy, but right now it says it's in the Facility in Mexico. I was wondering If U.S packages go through Mx to get to Cuba. I wrote to Customer Service and they said the package is still in route to Cuba arriving the 27th. I am wondering if your package also passed by Mexico?

Saludos

HI!

Yes!  Portsmouth, NH - USA --> Boston, MA - USA --> Cincinnati HUB, OH - USA --> MEXICO CITY - MEXICO --> HAVANA CITY (it actually says that) - CUBA.

Took 9 days calendar.  It gets to Mexico pretty quickly then another week after Mexico to get to Havana.

Hi @CubaAndChill,

We put 'Yes' for this question, just because it is mandatory in Cuba.  They are going to know that he did his service.  We just put what he did for the year he was in the service.

Yes, everyone, make sure you are using the latest I-134 form that expires 11/30/2018.  The other one is not valid anymore.  I've been meaning to put that up here.  Thanks for mentioning.

Also, the example you attached is for a K-3 visa it looks like, because he puts his wife and son as dependents on the form.  I've read on this site somewhere (and they were for the new form) that people are putting "No, do not intend" on Pg 4 Part 4, #38 and then putting the "N/A K1 visa" etc., on the Part 7. Additional Information part.  I guess there is some understanding for K1 visa applicants that obviates us from having to explain how we plan on taking care of our beneficiaries, but I don't see anything like that in the instructions.  I think I'm going to mark, "No" and then put the N/A in Part 7.

I'm still not sure about the A#.  The sample is a K3 so the wife wouldn't necessarily have an A#.  Are you going to put it in the Beneficiary section?

Thanks!

Yeah, it seems like it is. My fiance has been hunting down his doctor since we got out Noa2 and just today he got a hold of her to give him his medical records. I'll let you know what they tell him when he calls to make the appointment. This should be today or early next week.

Yay! I am so glad you have your plane tickets already!! How many days are you planning to be there for? Will you travel back with him?

I will write a comprehensive list of all I have and will take to the interview. Maybe you can do the same here and we can compare each others list :)
