The businessman racked up 306 electoral votes in his surprise win, versus 232 for rival Hillary Clinton, according to NBC News. Trump did so with thin traditional campaign spending. Instead, his chaotic and often divisive campaign drew constant eyeballs, earning him billions of dollars in free media and allowing him to spend comparatively little on television ads and ground operations.

His campaign committee spent $321.9 million through late November, compared with Clinton's $564.9 million spend. That comes out to about $1.05 million spent per Trump electoral vote, versus about $2.43 million spent per Clinton electoral vote.

Trump was smart. As much as he complained about the "evil media" (or was it "crooked media"? I forget) he also loved them I'm sure. Even bad press generally is still "press" for someone like him so he got a lot of free advertising. Sure the thing with the bus could have gone away quicker for him, but in general the more people talked about him the more it helped him (and I'm also sure it stroked his ego).

look you know i can't stand a hillary clinton, but as far as presidents go..mark my words take bets whatever..trump is going to screw us all big time.

Trump was smart. As much as he complained about the "evil media" (or was it "crooked media"? I forget) he also loved them I'm sure. Even bad press generally is still "press" for someone like him so he got a lot of free advertising. Sure the thing with the bus could have gone away quicker for him, but in general the more people talked about him the more it helped him (and I'm also sure it stroked his ego).

trump knows how to promote his brand by any shady means, by any scumbag supporter. that's what got him here.

I love to feel the hate from the Trump haters. It keeps me warm at night knowing how he makes you furious.

He spread lies reslly? It seems like the only people spreading lies are the people that hate him so much and never actually bothered to listen to what he said, instead just listened to sound bites and stupid talking heads.

The reason why he got so much media is because CNN's ratings were tanking, and whenever they had anything about him on they went up. So that's why you have seen some of him on there.

Dakine, don't you realize that truth is crooked and totally biased? It's really not as good as it used to be. It is really not interesting. Not the best at all. Not sure why anyone looks at the truth anymore. Lame!

It would have been a severe indictment of his business acumen if he spent more than Clinton did. Still, it's more likely Trump didn't believe he would win and hence kept his expenditures on the campaign as low as possible.

Love him or hate him, no one can ignore Trump so give the man a chance to lead.
