Of course not. Completely agree. However that doesn't negate that it happened.

If someone shot you in the face, it wouldn't be righteous. But you would still be shot in the face.

People are free to exercise their freedom of speech. They should feel safe in the knowledge that their government won't punish them. However, they need to accept the risk that some vigilante may try to punish them. Have you watched Black Mirror? The last episode of the newest season on Netflix addresses this a little bit.

Not too long ago, one of the favorite quotes of the right was, to paraphrase Voltaire, that they may not agree with what you say, but they'll defend to the death your right to say it. It sounded good at the time.

I think what charles was saying is you may have the freedom to speak your mind, and the government may not stop you, but other people may try to "punish you". If someone did punch the guy in the face, the guy who did the punching would get in trouble. However, prosecuting the assault wouldn't negative it happening. He still would have been punched in the face. So there are "repercussions" if other people don't agree with you and are willing to break the law to punish you.

I'm not in any way condoning the actions of the "bullies", just accepting the realities. We can do our best to stop them prempetively, but there will always be a risk if you stand up and speak your mind that someone will want to try to punish you. It's not right by any means, but unfortunately it happens.

Minimal spoilers - A woman writes an article about a disabled person that the public is outraged about. People post on twitter that she should die. Then she gets murdered. I won't say anything else because it spoils it. Black Mirror is a very good series.

and it will always happen, so it goes with 'free will'. just saying, i'm aware.

looks interesting, i'll add it to my 'waiting for dvd release' list along with "stranger things"

Very sad about your internet :( i have fiberoptic in Houston. I get about 800 mbps down/up. It's very nice :)

YOu can get season 1/2 of Black Mirror on Amazon. The first two seasons were on Channel 4 in the UK. Netflix just picked it up after that. Each episode is a different storyline focusing on a way in which technology in the future may influence our lives in unexpected ways (most negative/creepy/thought provoking ways).

If this guy was in another city and not the ultra liberal San Francisco. I can bet you one of his team mates would of already knocked all his teeth out of his mouth for his actions.

Wow, you must really be insecure, if your response to someone exercising their first amendment rights, is to punch them in the face.

Have you tried using Netflix? My connection now is about 5MBps, and I am able to watch it. Unless you are talking about monthly download limit of 20GB. That is very limiting if so.

yep, before we moved we had uncapped internet but comcast never came down the road we live on now. stuck with satellite tv and verizon is the only tower that hits our spot so..very limiting.

All for him protesting all he wants when he is not being paid millions to be on live TV doing something else.

it's his right to do so, if his team wanted to fire him for it - couldn't they? i don't think its as big of a deal as everyone getting their britches in a wad over it.

Just like all the sore losers beating up Trump supporters. Who are they fans of?

yeah, i don't think thats a thing.

His original "protest", if I'm not mistaken, wasn't all that loud and abnoxious. He just didn't want to stand for the pledge of allegiance right? Something like that. He didn't make it a big deal, everyone else did. He has the right to stand or not stand.

Now I do agree with you if you are referring to stuff like the quote about Fidel Castro. I don't care his political opinions at all. To be honest though again whose fault is it, the athlete that says it or the media/reporters who ask him the question? If they had just let him sit and not been bothered he wouldn't have the attention he has.

seriously, you've even got a breitbart link in there..yeah not good homework if that's what you're bringing as evidence that charles' post isn't waay over the top, exaggerated and conveniently ignoring the surge in hate crimes since the election.

Doesn't matter where the links come from; I knew you wouldn't read them, since they don't go along with your own theories. However, the fact remains that people who show their support for Trump ARE getting beaten and their homes destroyed. It's pretty sad, to be sure.
