News on a webcam sex scam, as provided to the Bangor Daily News by police sergeant Tim Cotton:

The sergeant provides a little “advice” for those who receive a Facebook friend request from an unknown woman:

1. Go to the closest mirror.

2. Look at yourself.

3. Give yourself an honest review and realize that there is no reason in the world that an attractive lady from the Philippines wants to be your friend.

4. Return to the computer and delete the friend request.

5. Continue looking at lawnmowers, motorcycles and jacked up trucks that

are for sale in your region of the country.

6. Realize that you just saved yourself from showing the world what no one really needs to see, and a whole lot of cash.

I feel the same could be written about immigration scams. Uh.

For what it is worth, I've read articles where Canadians were arrested for similar scams... However, the articles were not as funny at giving advice on how to avoid being the naked fish.

My neighbor got scammed by a concrete guy a few years ago. The guy he hired said he needed half down in cash and my neighbor never saw the guy again.

The problem is not really that one part of the world has more scammers, it's more that they just seem to have found an abundance of gullible targets here. Email and phishing scams just made it easier. They don't even have to work at it nowadays.

I've been married to a Russian woman for 12 years and I've never seen a Russian scam either. But darn sure they're out there.

LOL. My Google search on Filipinos and Russian brides scams only returned 10 million hits

Darn who wulda thunk
