I can't give you legal advice, but what I can say as someone that got divorced a migration process: don't stay married just for the citizenship, It really isn't worth it.

I met my ex husband and lived with him for two years before getting married, so we didn't rush into it. We both lived in Mexico and the green card got accepted fast, in six months I received the letter saying congratulations.

I held the paper in my hand and cried. That day was ironically the day I was leaving to sign my divorce papers.

The thing is I was miserable with him. I did consider staying married just for the green card, but was smart enough not to. Not just the legal aspect of it, but the emotional one. Not even the American dream is worth your unhappiness.

Also Belgium is so amazing, why not give it another shot?

right now I am holding on until my AOS is approved and then considering to file for divorce and the ROC (with waiver) if things don't improve. The reason I want to stay is that I invested a lot of money in coming here and buying her that new car. I want it to be worth something. Should I bring this up with an immigration officer at USCIS to ask for advice?

Ahem-- So right now you are staying in the marriage until your immigration process is complete. That is fraud. Period. Does not matter your reasons. By all means tell the Officer this at the interview. Im sure he or she will have a variety of words for you. I have none. Thanks for posting!

OP's priority is citizenship and starting off his career in the US

OP wife's priority is financial security.

Its okay that your spouse is seeking financial security. But its gonna take some years of US work experience to get that 80k-125k salary that you speak of, especially considering that you're foreign trained and most likely a young professional that may not have a lot of work experience. She should be more interested in your long term potential to succeed as a software developer rather than immediate financial gains.

I think you, the OP, should focus more on fixing your bad marriage by maybe seeking marriage counseling and re-aligning both your priorities and making sure that your spouse is stable enough to even go through this AOS process.
