May not be for you, but it is for me. Seems like every so often when something important was happening, Obama couldn't vibe there to deal with it because he was on the links. Maybe I'm sensitive to the concept because I don't play golf. But it sure seemed to happen a lot while he served.

I'm being honest here I just don't get the problem with it. In today's world he will be surrounded by people even at a golf course who can get him information he needs. If something happens, he can still make the necessary decisions. Even if you look at his "vacation" time I'm sure he is never actually on "vacation" just like every other President. It is a horrible burden. Yes you choose it, but it is still an incredibly stressful job I can only imagine. He's not saying "I'm going to go play golf, don't tell me if anything bad happens". He is always in contact. If he wants to try to destress by playing golf, more power to him.

3 games a month is less than 1 per weekend. If he wants to take 2-3 hours on Saturday to play a round of golf that's perfectly fine with me. Not sure how accurate the numbers are but if you look around Eisenhower apparently played 800, and Wilson played 1,200 games. Those numbers are even worse when you consider that if sh** hit the fan while Wilson was out on the golf course, he would have been mostly out of contact with people except via limited land lines. Though you could argue the potential for really bad things suddenly happening back then were a lot worse. Eisenhower though, post-war, kept quite busy with his golf.

TL;DR - I would gladly give any president 2-3 hours every Saturday to play a round of golf if it helps him unwind. If they don't like golf, substitute any other hobby in there and it is still okay with me.

I'm not going to say what each individual's reason is, but in general. If we had a time machine, we could go back well back before his first vacation or his first golf game while in office and have the same discussion.

You are sensitive to a lot of things, I guess. You posted incorrectly about Obama lowering the flag for Whitney Houston. You posted about being surprised he attended a Veterans day memorial even though he hasn't missed one. You are unhappy about his golf and vacation time even though they are lower than many previous presidents. Something has made you (and many others) willing to buy into make believe in a way you haven't since you were about 6 years old.

Go back eight years ago it was because he was a Muslim. He was the anti-Christ. He was born in Kenya or Indonesia or outer space. he was Hussein, or he was Barry Sueto.

It's a human characteristic that people will readily believe the things that they really want to believe, even when it doesn't make sense otherwise. It's not a new phenomenon. I've just never seen it on such a large scale in a large group of individuals in my life time. It's been something else.

Never seen it on such a large scale LMAO.

Many hundreds of DDS posts in the last year . Orange hair, small hands etc etc.

Massive stench of hypocrisy in the air

The scale has been lost on you I think.

By the way, since you brought up racism, I have been called racist several times over the years on this site. I've never got defensive about. Nothing inside makes me feel like I had to. I'm not the type to be writing LOL's but that's my reaction to it.

GW Bush played 24 games in 8 years. Obama, over 300 in 8 years. So yeah, in the part 16 years, during which I have been more aware of the goings-on in DC, it seems Obama has played a lot of golf. A lot of why it bothers me, admittedly, is the way the media talks about it... "Situation X is unfolding, but Obama is currently playing a round of golf".

Most presidents play golf. All but about 4 or 5, it seems. But guess what? I didn't much care, nor pay attention much prior to 20 years ago. I liked why Bush stopped playing; it showed a respect for troops that Obama has never shown. The difference is that when presidents were doing it 20 or more years ago, few knew about it, because we didn't have MSM.

Am I sensitive? That's humorous, no one in my life has ever called me that. Thank you.

Yes, shame on me for not knowing more about the Whitney Houston flag debacle. I only know I saw a flag at half-staff, and had to ask why. Lived in Alaska at the time, so I guess it reached a tad farther than just Christie, eh? But since I haven't had cable TV for more than 15 years, and care little to watch the "news", I never learned any more about it than I did that day in 2012.

Your last paragraph is accurate, and nowhere in the past year have I seen it exemplified more than I have in the past couple of months. Even here on VJ. You're right, it IS something else.

Obama is supposedly the most avid presidential golfer since Eisenhower, who played 800 rounds. Eisenhower had a high approval rating throughout his presidency, I think only once falling below 50%. So I will say again, it's not the golf.

No, someone had like 1200 games, can't remember who. Obama is probably in the top 10. But you're right, it's not just the golf. It's the when. When people are dying, when our country is deeper in debt than ever before.

I've never understood people's negativity around Obama enjoying golf. What is wrong with that exactly? Honest question. He total "vacation days" is far less than Bush took, or Reagan (though more than Clinton). If he chooses to spend those days on the golf course, who are we to judge? You wouldn't catch me there (I find it crazy boring), but I don't really see a problem with it?

I also found it funny that Trump thought he would have more "free time" when he is President for the trial. It's not going to get any better, so they need to just get it over with.

The only problem I have with presidents playing golf is that it is an incredibly boring game.

Then again maybe that's why they play it.

I am with you. The same people who are outraged at someone questioning Obama's vacation time are the same ones that were outraged at Bush going to his Ranch or Reagan doing the same and Vice Versa. The Media crucified Bush for his vacations as did the MDL.

The only thing that sickens me is the Hypocrisy from both sides.

As for Presidential vacations does anyone really think they take normal vacations. Turn the cell phone off and sleep on the beach after a few cold ones. Maybe they clear the schedule from all the PR glad handing BS that goes with the job, but I promise you they are still on the phone a lot, getting security briefings, making decisions, calling law makers etc.

Personally regarding Presidential golf, I think while overall it seemed nice for Bush to not play golf during the war as some grand gesture, on the flip side, it also seems a rather empty gesture. It's kind of like when someone says ''change your facebook avatar to X picture to support XYZ cause''. It's something to do to be seen but ultimately doesn't help the soldiers dying. I don't know how the men and women on the battlefield felt about it, but if I were a betting woman I'd think they wouldn't care too much about it.

Golf is utterly boring to me, but if a President needs it for a brief moment to collect his thoughts and relieve stress I'd rather that than a smoking habit (and ya know Michelle is hiding those cigs at every opportunity). Presidents don't really have ''vacation time'' it's on call 24/7, and whacking a ball while standing on some grass doesn't impede their abilities in any way to be POTUS any more than eating, drinking, breathing air, or going to the bathroom. They should try mini-golf though, it's way more fun. Maybe people would be more comfortable if the President held some kind of charity golf session in which politicians could compete against each other reality tv game show style. Someone should suggest this to Trump - he might finally get that Emmy.

In 8 years there are 416 weekends. So IF Obama did play golf 300 out of 416 weekends who cares. Is he supposed to work every waking moment? Did no other presidents have down time or allowed recreation? I just don't get the constant Obama bashing these past 8 years. But the minute someone complains about trump its "get over it" "sore loser". Many Americans been sore losers for 8 entire years.

Well soon enough Obama will be gone. Hopefully, that makes everyone happy.

Media Ignores Lavish Obama Vacations, Slammed Bush for Mountain Biking

http://www.breitbart.com/big-journalism/2013/03/26/obamas-vacation-more-lavishly-than-bushes/

Bush caught just as much flack or more than Obama. I don't care about either taking vacation, because a President really takes no vacation. I jsut hate the hypocrisy on both sides
