In my old age, I find that I drive slower than the speed limit on occasion.  The speed limit for one of the highways I use is 75 (they'd like to raise it to 80).  I feel like with the way the road is designed, frequently adverse weather, and just the way my car drives that the safe upper limit on that road is 72 in summer and 65 in winter (or 55 if snowy or especially icy).  I'd say the majority of local drivers don't agree with me, which might be one of the reasons the fatality rate is so high in this part of the country.

 

I don't turtle, though.

I'm going to take a page from the beginning of this thread years ago and be a braggart.  

 

Teacher pulled me aside today to tell me that my daughter jumped up two grade levels in reading and that's she's never seen a kid her age so advanced in math.

 

 

*For those new to the thread, my daughter was way behind in reading two years ago to the point that they wanted to evaluate her for LD and autism.

In unrelated ranting, this paper I'm writing is killing me right now.  I switched to a nearby university and whilst I only have 3 math classes left, I have to take about 2 semesters worth of random junior and senior level classes in order to graduate (which is fine because with the way my other classes are spaced).  With my existing pre-requisties, my choices were physics, chemistry, geology, religion, and English classes to fill it.  Guess what was the only one they had online?  Guess what was my worst subject besides art in high school?  

 

One Shakespeare play a week and one paper to go with it....  no good.  At least I'm a prolific reader and at least it is a fraction of the workload of taking Norwegian literature classes.

Trophie, I get these reading assessment passages for my kid. And we actually have fun doing them. She likes the challenge. Some of these are free, some you pay a few bucks. 

 

We're up to level Q. Lemme get a link...

 

And math, I was a math wiz by US standards. (But just a run of the mill by HK standards), and I have various ways of practicing math with the kid. And different methods of teaching her.  She's beginning to memorize the multiplication table. I stay just one or 2 lessons ahead of the class.
