Hi! I would like to schedule my fiance's interview today or tomorrow for mid-October so that the VISA will have time before I'd like him to come to the US for my brother's wedding. We will get married the month after.

Problem is, we have not received anything from the Nicaraguan Embassy indicating that they are scheduling an appointment for us. I know that I can schedule the appointment myself (have done so for a visitor's VISA). I have filled out the D-160 and read through all instructions online. http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Nicaragua&cty=Managua I know it has arrived in Nicaragua, because my tracking number told me so, but I have received no official email or letter (didn't put his email because he never checks).

For the medical appointment, it says they need a letter. Is that referring to a letter from the embassy or a letter from NVC indicating that the first part of my application is approved? I received a letter from NVC (my NOA2) but that is the only communication I have received. Will the medical appointment not be valid if I don't have this mysterious letter they are referring to?

Thank you for any help you can provide!

Laurel

Hey Laurel,

They are definitely referring to the letter from the embassy! Call the embassy and see if they got your petition yet & ask them when you can expect the letter from them..

Once it arrives you can go ahead and get police clearance certificate and get your medicals done as well (also you will be instructed to setup for your biometrics and interview dates)

Thanks! I talked to by boyfriend, and he is going to call the embassy tomorrow to figure out where our letter is. He has the medical appointment book for September 28 (before the prices go up on October 1st).

Not all embassy's require a letter from embassy for a medical. Ours required the letter from NVC. It depends on the embassy.

Schedule the Interview: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/

You need the DS-160 confirmation and the $265 (K1) visa fee confirmation to schedule the interview

The consulate knows the mail is not reliable: "We are open to the public for inquiries on immigrant visas on Mon or Fri from 9-11 am., in case he would like to obtain a copy of the instructions. (I asked for the instructions via email and they sent back a word document. Didn't have name or date, I just printed it as is and the doctor accepted it.) We prefer not to mail the instructions using the local post office, since it could take some weeks for him to receive it."

This came from your embassy portal. So I'm assuming you schedule the interview, and your fiancé needs so,etching from the embassy to schedule the medical.

Yes, like Meg&Andrew said it depends on your embassy

Please refer to the link below for a better guidance, if you have not already gone through it :

You are right when you say that you are the one that schedules it. When You pay the visa fee online at US travel docs.com and after they process your payment, (took about 12 hours for me) you are able to choose whatever day that works. I suggest as early as possible otherwise you will be sitting and waiting for a long time. Ours was scheduled at 9:00. We didn't get out of the embassy until 1:30

You don't need a letter from the embassy, I don't think they will even snail-mail it. I honestly emailed them and they sent me an electronic packet 4. I can email that to you if you would like. The packet 4 instructions are also posted here on this forum, which is a list of all documentation you will need - so you really don't need it. The med appointment needs to see the confirmation page for the D-160, at least that's what they asked of my fiancé.

Also. I took about 9 calendar days from the day of the interview to the day that he had the passport in hand if that helps you plan to purchase a ticket. He called the place of delivery (we chose casa blanca on carretera Masaya) before going to make sure that they had it instead of going there to find out "it will be here tomorrow" etc.

Felicidades. Nicaragua is my fav country in the whole stinking world! We hope to go back and live there one day after citizenship

I didn't receive any "invitation letter"and seemed very weird to me so I called the embassy of the USA in Perú and to be honest they are not very helpful because they asked me to send an e-mail to the embassy. Which I did, and well you know what they attached the invitation letter to the mail and it wasn't even necessary to send it physically to my address in Perú, I just printed that out. So maybe this is happening to you. I hope everything goes excellent for you!

Wow! Thanks. Yes, please email it to me. My email is lfitts8@gmail.com (that first letter is a lowercase L not an uppercase I). I'd like to just have a look at it. Perfect, yes we are looking at interviewing October 12th or 13th. I'd like to fly out October 28th. My brother gets married on October 30th. I wanted to give the VISA more than enough time, because I had a friend who went through the process (but they used a lawyer, so it was a little different) in Costa Rica. I know that I should give the flight a few extra days.

Since you have dealt with Nicaragua.

Did you need any sort of card for the medical appointment? I see everywhere that he will need his passport, photos, vaccination record, and a card from the embassy. Is that this packet? If so, did you really need it?

Thank you!

No. All my husband did was take the confirmation page from the DS160 (and I am honestly not sure if they looked at it) and passport photos. I can't remember how many but they are cheap to do in Nic so your fiancé should get as many as he can. Especially for the Adjustment of Status when you do that. Make sure they give him a copy of the vaccination sheet, you will need it. They are supposed to give one, but if they don't, have your husband insist on it.

The "packet" is just a list of stuff that you need to bring to the interview. There's also names of civil surgeon doctor dudes. You don't need to show the packet to anyone as it's just a guide.
