Depends on the area. Here it is about a 2 year wait list. You can get some forms of subsidized housing faster but they are not nice. She won't qualify for Section 8 as a new immigrant. Guess hubby will be having a new housemate.

Surprise Surprise. I think this is what was on his mind from the beginning. That he was somehow going to end up with his wife's sister and and possibly her minor child for years and years. I don't think he ever intended to sign up for that little slice of life.

In my state 8 year wait section 8 the list is closed at this time hope he doesnt live in RHODE ISLAND!!

We have enough people mouching of the system.

Hmm. I was told that an I-864a was not necessary from a spouse if the "main" sponsor supplied a W2 and employment letter/pay stubs to show that the single spouse alone makes enough.

It was a mod I believe who told me this, and it's what I did for my joint sponsor for the I-864 so I hope it's accurate..

I am not sure if USCIS always insists on this. I know that in DCF some Embassies do. There was a case here on VJ. The joint sponsor was VERY wealthy and Athens insisted on an I-864A from his wife anyway.

USCIS may not.

I sent one in my case even though the joint sponsor's income alone was sufficient, I had his wife fill out an I-864A to be on the safe side.
