Hello dear VJ members :star:

I was wondering if I could use US consulate in Turkey to apply for my Immigrant visa. Turkey isn't my home country but I might have to relocate there due to a job offer. Does one have to use US consulate in the country they hold citizenship or it doesn't matter as long as it's a US consulate?

Thanks

Yes, I would most definitely stay there legally I can't work on a tourist status.

You are not getting it.

For the intending immigrant to interview in Turkey, the intending immigrant must have legal status in Turkey other than a tourist visa. The intending immigrant can not interview in Turkey if he/she is there on a tourist visa.

How are you planning on staying in Turkey legally?

Well I think you are not getting it, or can't make yourself clear enough. Have you heard about working visas, permanent residence? As I've mentioned above if I would move to Turkey for a little while, it would be due to the job offer which itself includes me getting working permit/residence in Turkey. I am not crossing sea on a boat and hoping they will let me through the border so I can use their US consulate. Being employed as a teacher, signing international work contract makes me a legal resident there. If you mean that I need to be Turkish citizen then no, I'm not and not planning on becoming one at least not in the nearest future. All I am curious about is whether or not I would be able to use US consulate in Istanbul to apply and proceed with my Green Card application simply because I wouldn't be physically present in my home country and able to use my local US consulate for that purpose.

Got it, thank you for your answer :)

Be sure to check for the residency policy most countries you have to have lived there 6 months first. But you are filing in October so that's good.

Just to add, you'd still have to start the process by sending the I-130 to the USA. There is no USCIS office in Turkey so DCF isn't available there.
