Hi

I have a question that relates to parents having to send their children back home to uk to see the other parent thats still in UK. Has anyone used the unaccompanied minors airline program and how was it. My child will have to retuen for possibly 6 weeks to see their dad- i will not be able to return for such a length of time and no real desire as all my old friends will be working and hell not want t see me though that feeling is mutual. just looking for feedback any hints whats the best airline etc. Many thanks for any help/guidance

Sorry they are allowed on international flights i have checked just wanted peoples comments on what/ who was best etc.

not all airlines allow but most american airlines do permit unaccompanied minors internationally, and some european airlines.

My son who just turned 15 last week flew from Australia to the States with out incident however we had a huge problem trying to get him back home flying American Airlines. When we checked him in they asked who was to accompany him, when I said no one they said he was not allowed to fly internationally with out an adult. I explained that American Airlines flew him out to the States with out issue in fact not once was my son asked who was with him not at check in nor customs. I asked if I could then use the unaccompanied minors service but was told this is only offered for direct flights and not international. Long story short after my son was questioned by a supervisor he was allowed to continue home.

You are correct in airlines do have different policies on this however just remember it's only offered on direct flights.

British Airways has ceased to offer the UM service.

OP, what options do you have in terms of airports? That will affect your airline choices. Otherwise you may have to fly with the child and leave him/her with his/her father and fly back soon after and then either the father or you will have to fly again six weeks later to collect/deliver the child.

My sister used to have my children and my sisters come visit her all over the world. She would always try for british airways because she felt they were the best at it. You pay a fee , turn the children over to an assigned hostess and they are given a neck hanger with their instructions. You will have to name who will pick them up at the other end and that person must present acceptable ID

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

BA stopped doing that.

My Son does this two or three times a year though usually flying the other way we always use Skyteam, AirFrance, Delta, KLM etc, he has a preference for Amsterdam as it has a nice lounge for unaccompanied minors costs $150 extra each way.
