Hi everyone I'm Jamaican I will be starting the process for a K1 visa in a few months however my question isn't about my K1 visa. My mother had a very bad stroke which has left her temporarily paralyzed however she has started to move around again but its still not great and my fiance and I want to do everything we can to get her a tourist visa before he starts my K1 visa process. I need help with how to get her to qualify for the visa, she's no longer working and has very little ties to jamaica other than the fact that she has to come back home for her doctor visits. I really dont know how to go about getting her this visa does anyone has any suggestions on what I can do. She has family living in new york is there anything that they could do that would aid in getting her the visa I'd greatly appreciate the advise.

Is she dependent on disability payments? It sounds like her chances of working are very small so a reason to return could be that she needs the disability payments. But it's going to be tough if she had family in the USA. The consular officer will likely assume that she will stay with them and not want to return home because they can look after her.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

Immigrant intent & family here in the CO eyes will make it seem she wont return.

recent illness can go against her too, she has to get visa on her own merits, a good

paycheck, bank balance, house title , collecting rent from rental property & SS payments

since she is unemployed along with other ties...However its a long shot for her to

obtain a visa, but if you have the funds to spare, no harm in trying, she has to convince

the CO she'll return home without seeming desperate

the CO will wonder who will be providing care for her, with her various ailments....and the American taxpayers are not going to be paying the bill. The US of A is not here to provide free health care for everyone on this planet. Letters from various relatives 'promising' to pay for any medical care for her are absolutely worthless, as they cannot be forced to pay the hospital bills. What in the world would 'force' her to return? The 'top of the line' health care in Jamaica? Doubt it.

The 'excuse' that she 'has to' return for doctor visits is laughable...if that were true, she would have to return every week....so...how long is she planning to stay? If more than a week, then who will be providing her medical care? Yep....the already besieged American taxpayers....and we are fed up with giving millions of people free medical care while we pay for our own....

True...there's already potentially millions who get billed and don't pay

Save your money and start the K1 application. If it's any consolation, Jamaica tends to process and approve K1s relatively quickly unless drugs or significant red flags are involved. Do your research, front load and put together a great package. If you do that and the trends remain the same you could have her here this spring.

:goofy:

Thats funny.

Back to topic after our amusing diversion.

Have you looked into the cost and availability of travel insurance, that may make the whole question moot.

I don't see how it would be possible for the OP to have the mother in the USA by spring when they themself probably wouldn't even be here by spring. I do agree the best route is to obtain your K1 get LPR status and then petition for your mother.

Glad I could provide a diversion but unless I've misread posts and trends 3-5 months is not out of the norm for the prepared K1 in Jamaica since California has been processing.

I would like to amend my comment by saying that a fiancé visa or spouse visa would be your best route. I don't know enough about your financial situation or other background information to suggest K1. I do know the chances of getting a visitor's visa based on what was reported earlier are remote. Good luck to you and yours.

Oh My!!!! Now that's what I get for being blizzard homebound! I misread while scanning and assumed mom was in the US and fiance was in Jamaica. A bit of deja vu/projecting on my part. Thanks for clearing that up for me Lioness Deon. I always enjoy your finesse, expertise, and direct way of speaking while being respectful.

But OP can't bring the mother along on a K1. OP would have to come here adjust status and then petition for mother. That process would take awhile. I agree with you. It sounds like the best route.

Have to be a Citizen to petition Mother. So over 3 years wait at the least after Green card is issues.
