Before some of you take your fiddly bits out and start congratulating the government on a job well done here, realize that these guys had a lot of local popular support and having one of them killed by the federal government is not something that is going to foment better relations. Not at all. The fact one of them died absolutely did not "teach them a lesson", at all.

I'm not sure that anyone outside of Burns, Oregon really cares. This wasn't that big of a story anywhere else.

In fact it was one of the main news stories earlier this month, for many days in a row. Although I still don't even know what they were complaining about TBH.

it's all about the federal government 'owning' 'our' land. oh and for the media to full on display to the nonwhite-male masses just what they could be getting away with if they were just white males..if only.

Just because the media gloms onto a story for a few days doesn't make it big news amongst the masses. I really don't know anyone that gave this story a second thought and it fell off the front page fairly quickly. It was a few yahoos lookin to tweak Uncle Sam, as usual Uncle sam won.

I know you want to use this as an example of whites getting away with something non-whites wouldn't, but there is no evidence for it. Not everything has to be about race.

not everything, and not entirely 'about' race but i seriously doubt that if this had been a group of militant black panthers this would have played out the way it did. it's just my opinion and there's no way for you to prove me wrong as you love to do, unless you've got the delorean warmed up and ready to roll.

I don't know Val, I think the local gov't's of Baltimore and Ferguson were pretty lax with blacks rioting and destroying their cities, no?

riots fueled by public outrage over police brutality and group of armed men taking over a federal building..don't really seem like the same thing to me. i don't see the point in comparing them.
