Right now I'm almost finished with "The Kite Runner".

It's very good, but really sad :(

That is a very well written and sensitive book. I love to read things that make me uncomfortable by opening my eyes to other realities. I recommend this book to anyone.

My son bought me a book at his school book fair. It has big print and it is wide spaced. It as well is a youth novel. I recently had a stroke and following tight small print has been a nightmare. So... i not only read that book, which happened to be the third in a series, i went and bought the first 2 because I was able to read them easily.

I just finished reading SCREWED: The Undeclared War on the Middle Class by Thom Hartmann of Air America radio fame. The book leans hard to the left, but as a working man I saw some good points made in the book.

The Left or the Right isn't totally wrong all the time.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I just finished Arundhati Roy's beautiful novel, The God of Small Things, and now I'm recommending it to everyone I know. I've started After the Ice; A Global Human History 20,000 - 5,000 B.C., by Mithin. That may not sound like cosy bed-time reading, but it's well-written and completely fascinating.

I just came back from vacation and read four books while away.... The Measure of a Man (Sidney Poitier), The Strangler (William Landay), The Tie That Binds (Kent Haruf), Hanna's Daughters (Marianne Fredriksson). All different but wonderful books. My all time favourite book, and author is A Fine Balance (Rohinton Mistry). I usually prefer "dark" books. I wouldn't recommend any books I read to children.

Am reading two books right now by the same author, Donald miller

First one is "Searching for God Knows What"

The second is "To Own a Dragon: Reflections on Growing Up Without a Father"

I did grow up with a father, but heard the book was good for anyone to read not just those who didn't have a father. I am loving it.

I also recently read his first book "Through Painted Deserts" which was fun. He took a road trip with a friend and in his serious yet witty way describes things he learns along the way about himself and nature and God.

He is a Christian writer, but he's very sarcastic and humorous when he writes. He'll be talking about something serious and suddenly say something so funny I have to put the book down and chuckle. That does not usually happen to me when reading a book. I have been reading in bed at times when Suj is sleeping, and I have to hold in my laughter so I don't wake him up. Then there are times when I think what he just said was so profound, I have to put the book down and think about it for a minute.

If someone is at all religious they would probably enjoy these books. He writes a lot about hypocrisy in the church today, and realizes people go around saying they are doing things for God that are actually harming others. He's realistic. But he's also very smart, witty, and encouraging. He lives in Portland, OR.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
