I am planning on renewing my passport and have it changed to my married name. I will opt to have it delivered to me which will take around 6-8 weeks.

At the same time, I will also start applying for jobs since I now have my EAD. I'm just wondering if let's say I do get an interview soon, will companies require a copy of my passport? Is there some document I can show them that my passport is with the embassy?

Thanks everyone!

Hi PauPau,

I've read on this thread and I just currently applied for jobs as well. So far, most of the companies that interviewed me especially the recruiting companies, they are following what Greenbaum showed you (picture showing list of IDs) so it says there that you can show just 1 ID from List A and that includes GC and EAD so that covers what they need. (I just showed my GC). They did asked for my SS number too. If you had any ID's like State ID, or Driver's ID that is fine too. I didn't show my passport at all. Additional things that I brought were my marriage certificate and I-94. Hope this helps. :)

Between EAD, SS, and DL, you should be OK,

but I can see some companies still wanting to see the passport.

Just make copies of your passport before you turn it in for renewal,

just in case they ask, and you can also explain that you will bring

it in once you receive the new passport.

Hi Hank! Hi Greenbaum, Hi Darnell ;)

hi dahlia,

Based on my experience, the lady from the SSA office told me that everytime you change your immigration status from USCIS (receiving GC or EAD/AP combo card) , we should always update our SS card. So when I went to SSA office 2 weeks ago, they gave me a new form , got my SS card and said to wait for my new SS card 2-4 weeks. So i guess yeah we can start changing our name or update it to our SS card. I just don't know with the Driver's license. Hope my experience helps. :)

For ID for work I would use EAD Card or Passport.

I would never use my Driver License, it then becomes easier to get ID stolen or someone use your information off your Driver License...

Hi Hank! Hi Greenbaum, Hi Darnell ;)

Now wait a mo, yer asking us to vette the actions of other people that went through this stuff and got it done?

ok - I try (just for you) -

as a K-1 visa holder, with subsequent marriage and EAD card and green card to be issued,

if'n you want to show your federally issued ID in your new married name,

you must fill out the AOS paperwork showing your new married name, on all forms.

Once you have the EAD or green card in hand, you can get the SSN re-issued showing the new name, as there's a federal ID in the new married name. Same bit for the driver's license.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hi all, thank you for all your helpful replies!! So far, I now have EAD, SSN and DL. I'll make a copy of my passport just in case they want to see it.

I will study everything written in form I-9. Again, thank you all!! Please pray for me, I hope to get a job soon. I have yet to receive any response or interviews from the companies I applied :(

No employer will want to see your passport. They want to see the EAD and SS card. Leave the passport, and the copy of it, at home.
