What would be the value in publicly executing him and broadcasting it live around the world?

None. It would be idiotic for the greatest nation on earth to mimic ISIS tactics. If he gets the death penalty, he will be executed according the law, not some circus side show.

Show justice at work.

Raise money for the victims

So when our enemy does it, do we accept that they are doing it in the name of justice as well? Or do we view them as ruthless animals with no morals or value for human life, with the end result being retaliation and more killing?

I have no problem with the death penalty for such severe cases like this where there is great loss of life and absolutely no doubt in the guilt of the person accused. But it must be swift, no appeals and most certainly not a public execution.

Exactly. Justice delayed is justice forgone.

When they kill hostages?

To make it clear I am not in favour of founding up Muslims and taking an eye for an eye.

No, when they kill our soldiers and drag their bodies through the street and burn them. Aren't they serving justice in their eyes?

Different situation.

No, justice delayed is justice delayed. Delayed has a specific meaning. So does forgone. They are not interchangeable.

If you look at the history of capital punishment, it's swift justice that generally ends up not being justice at all.

I'm changing my answer to this question to a yes. Whenever they publicly execute any person in the name of their cause. Whether it be a soldier or not, there is no difference in the barbarism and disregard for human life.

We are talking about this case. How would delaying anything be a positive?
