Does anyone know how long it takes for the Tokyo Embassy to send out Packet 3? Our case arrived on the 7th. And I see on the CEAC it's been at "Ready" since it got there. Also it's been updated multiple times, with the last touch being today. But my fiancee says she still hasn't received it. She lives in Tokyo too, so it doesn't have to travel far through the mail to get to her.

We set an interview date for June 24th, so there's quite a bit of time, but still would be nice to get the packet.

Hey guys!! Our interview is coming up soon!!

Everything is in order and we are hoping for smooth sailing!!

We met on Tinder. I know that should be no problem as it is not an imb, but hes been reading lots, and saw something about the officer asking someone whether or not the dating site checked my criminal records/marital status, and if they had provided her with proof of that.

I thought this was weird, and dont forsee any problems, considering tinder is well known, and definitely does not do background checks lol

Anyways if anybodys heard anything like that causing problems let me know.

Good luck to you all!!

It took about 3 weks in our case if I remember correctly. It'll arrive with plenty of time to spare. I wouldn't worry about it.

On a more off-topic note does anyone happen to know of any forums, groups etc of people in a similar situation to ours? (Married to a Japanese spouse living abroad). I am interested if it happens to exist because of course even after the visa and green card etc are approved, there are issues that pertain uniquely to those in our situation. Especially when it comes to children. I posted on Reddit recently about the procedure for registering me and my wife's child with the Japanese government hoping someone that was in the same boat could offer some advice just as we do here. Instead of help I received multiple comments about how I need to "let my wife be an adult" , not be a "gaijin husband that doesn't trust Japanese" , and "stop asking things online so I can feel like an man and tell her what to do".

I don't know what it is with Japaense expat groups but they are by far the most bitter and unhelpful group of people I've had the displeasure of knowing.

Appreciate any help.

Hello. I need some advice on the Affidavit of Support.

If I am currently working in Japan, do I put $0.00 as my current individual annual income for Part 6 #7 on the I-864 Affidavit of Support?

I am also somewhat confused about Part 5 #7. I am not sure if I understand this question correctly.

Part 5 #7 asks, "If you have a siblings, parents, or adult children with the same principal residence who are combining their income with yours by submitting Form I-864A, enter the number here." My brother will be my joint sponsor and we plan to live together once my wife and I move back to the US. Do I add him here and ask him to fill out the I-864A form?

Thanks!

Hey guys,

Can someone advise me what photographs they want me to upload? What should I do about the Police Certificate when they ask us to bring them the sealed envelope to the interview. Lastly, is there any additional documents that I should submit with this?

Thanks.

Japan.jpg

The photos they are asking for is a scan of the passport-style photo of your spouse. Just a scan of the single photo will be good.

For the police certificate, just upload a scan of the front and back of the sealed envelope. Keep it sealed and bring it to the interview as requested.

We did not include any other extra civil documents besides what were required.

Are these documents only needed during NVC stage?

and do you know if these documents are still needed if the case have been transferred to Embassy?  The interview email I got from Embassy only required few documents from me, and did not mention anything about uploading them to the website.

Normally the NVC sends all of the uploaded documents to the embassy. Since you were expedited you cannot upload the documents to CEAC and the embassy will instead be receiving the documents directly from your spouse at the interview. All of the same documents should be required, but you will need to bring physical copies instead of uploading them.

thanks!  I actually can still upload documents to CEAC, not sure why.

But since my case is already at the hands of Embassy,  I will let my wife know just bring the document they needed in the email they sent me.

If you have the ability it wouldn't hurt to upload them as well. If the NVC ends up transmitting them electronically then the embassy will just have you keep anything they don't need.

Since there's not a Japan specific forum, this thread seems the place to ask.

A little background. She lives and works in Japan (10+ year gaijin card holder). However, when we filed our I-130 she was on a 6 month assignment in China. So, we listed the China address as the current physical address and her Japan address in the history. We are requesting her interview to be at the Tokyo embassy since she would be back by the time.

Anyone have experience filing for a spouse that lives in japan but is a citizen of another country? What kind of headaches or problems could we expect? Think the Tokyo embassy will accept or will it be punted to China?

I'm already expecting we'll have to get 2 police reports. Japan and China. Will probably have issues getting a birth certificate even though she's from a Tier 1 city. Or maybe a copy of what she used for her Japanese visa will work. I don't know.

Thanks
