How to Find out if an American is currently married.

Hi, I used to be very active here as my wife got a fiancée visa and we have been married since 2009. This question relates to her girlfriend in Thailand who just met an American who very quickly expressed his intention to get married IN THAILAND and get a K-3 visa for her, expecting to have the visa in hand in under 5 months. My feeling is under 5 months is way too quick, as my wife's fiancée visa took 6 months which was considered fairly quick.

The other question is how could she best find out if he was married before and if he is married currently?

I know there are a million on-line services that promise to deliver that info for a fee but what is the easiest/cheapest way of finding this out for someone not residing in the US?

Thanks to all,

Hello.

She wont get a K 3 but a C R 1 is possible but I doubt 5 months will do it rather 6 to 10 if he goes about the process similar to what you did.

How do they communicate? English? Has she asked him if he's is currently or has been married?

Suggest Thailand Fever book to him. See what he does. Her too.

K-3 visa is rare. Most likely a IR-1/CR-1 visa will be needed if he goes there and marry her. or they could do the K-1 fiancé visa .5 months not happening with the spousal visa maybe with the K-1 visa it might

the easiest way to find if he been married is to ask him. If he is not truthful or she does not believe him then there is trust issues . That is not really good for a marriage.

Other ways is to know where he lives and check all the counties record there, that could take a while or pay a fee to have a background check done.

If he is marry now. The USCIS and NVC will know. The petition will be decline and he will be out of the money it cost to file it. Unless he is some person that just like to waste money and get off on stuff like that. I Really do not think he will go to Thailand marry your friend and file a petition knowing that the petition will be decline

Is there a reason that might suggest or put the thought into her mind that he might be married already?

I know the net is a mess with all kinds of people on it but is this is something she would fear from anyone or just with him?

He'll have to provide divorce decrees in the I-130 package. They do extensive background checks. If he was or is married, the USCIS will know. It would be a total waste of money to file if he thinks he will get away with lying.

Maybe he's one of those trash talkers who thinks foreign women are ready to marry the first American who asks.

be the friend, pass questions:

county and state of current residence?

county and state of last divorce?

full legal name?

once you have these answers, google search on

divorce records county state

then look for the official county website, go there, enter name.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
