I guess I'm lucky that my fiance and I are in driving distance, I'm happy for everyone getting to see their partner while they wait!

I called NVC this morning and they dont have my case yet. My NOA2 was dated Dec 17th. The lady said that it's normal and I shouldnt worry. She said they havent received it, but I wonder if they have and just no one's opened it yet. She told me to call back closer to the 21st (35 days) for an update. Grrr.

Are you taking this as an opportunity to bring over everything for him to take to the interview? I'm creating a binder that literally has everything and anything the interviewer could want. I also have a 4 page list of questions/answers that I've seen on VJ (if you want the questions, let me know) just so he's prepared.

That's exciting about meeting the family! Do you know much about them? Soufiane's family is amazing. I'm sure his will be, too! I hope you have a similar experience to mine :)

Hi Rhaenerys,

Call them at least once or twice a week. The last time I called (last Monday) they had my file and said "they received it 7 days before"... Well, I called them the prior Monday and they said they didn't have it yet. Every time they said it was taking 35 days. It's such a weird system. I honestly don't understand it. There were people that got their NOA2's around the same time as us (we got ours Dec 3rd) and got to the NVC a week or two BEFORE ours. I don't understand how they "send" the files.

And I'm very jealous that you are so close to your loved one.. :) but very happy you get to see them often!!

I hate to say, that as of right now... they're not very "happy" about us. I am significantly older than him, different religion, and have previously been married (our red flags). I know they are very kind and I'm sure they're just as interested to finally meet me as I am them. So, least to say, this is going to be interesting. But I am VERY excited to meet them and looking forward to it. I wish it was easier for them (MENA countries) to visit us. I've never realized how much I take for granted my ability to travel whenever and almost literally WHEREVER I want in the world. They don't have that at all...

I hear ya. Every day I get asked, "well why can't he come here?" and I have to explain that it's impossible for him to get a work visa and just as hard for him to get a tourist visa because he can't prove that he won't stay here illegally. Same thing with him getting a Schengen visa if he wanted to visit the EU.

It's definitely opened my eyes as to how difficult is it for most of the world population to travel. Unless you're from like... the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and some Asian countries, you're pretty much limited as to where you can go w/o a visa. Hell - I know he can't even go to Algeria (which is right next door) without one.

Good luck with meeting the family. I'm not familiar with the Egyptian culture, but I hope they will be more accepting once you meet.

Thanks, I will do just that! I'll call them mid next week. I dont understand either, it clearly doesnt take 35 days to mail something, so they have a weird system!!

I don't know what I'd do without you guys for support, advice, and to see everyone's similar stories. I'd fall apart on my own!

ETA: Thanks Pheebs! I will!

Oh! And yes.. I totally plan on bringing him the "duplicate" packet I sent to USCIS and any and all information/docs he may need for the interview.

If you could send the questions that'd be GREAT!!! I've seen a few different things online but haven't really "got into them" as of yet.

That is the weirdest request I've seen. I guess he will need to write it in Arabic and have an official translator translate to English (just like he has to for his birth certificate). Looks like I'm going to do this when I'm in Morocco just in case this happens to us... Super weird though that they would ask for the intent in Arabic and then in English when you already gave it in English.
