I just got the email that my petition was approved and I will be getting the NOA2 in the mail. Reading up on the next steps, it says I can contact the service center 2-3 weeks after the NOA2. Yet I look at the US Department of State website and it says the NVC approved petition will direct me to the website, and then I do the 6 steps:

Step 1: Choose an agent

Step 2: Pay fees

Step 3: Submit visa application form

Step 4: Collect financial documents

Step 5: Collect supporting documents

Step 6: Submit documents to the NVC

So is it necessary to call the service center if I will receive a letter that has all the information I will need to complete the process online? I just want to make sure I’m not missing a step. Thank you.

I also want to know, what is the purpose of calling NVC 2 weeks after receiving NOA2? to ask if the case is forwarded to local embassy?

would it make a difference if I don't call? Will calling NVC speed up the process?

I called the NVC a couple days after I received notification of our k-1 approval. It gave me peace of mind to know it was being sent to my fiance's country within the next business day. Be aware, you will have to wait a long time on the phone. They're extremely busy, but keep trying-first time I heard a busy signal in years!

As Hannah and Liam said, it can give you peace of mind. You don't HAVE to call NVC to get your new case number, since they'll eventually send you the notice, but it's nice to know that they've received it.

It could speed up the process a bit, since at least for some countries, you can set up your medical appointment once you have the NVC case #.
