My EAD was finally approved on Monday 1/12th after 80 long days. I recieved two emails one around noon and another one around 6pm that says "On January 12, 2015, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number MSCxxxxxxxx, and will mail it to the address you gave us. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address"

Have you received your ead card yet?

Hi guys,

I went down to the Social Security office on Tuesday (20th Jan) to apply for my SSN (I received my EAD on the 17th Jan). They told me that SSN will take upto 4 weeks (3 weeks minimum) as my info in the SAVE database hasn't been updated by USCIS. Very frustrating as my employer wants my SSN in order to put me on insurance, etc.

Any insights on this? How long did you guys have to wait to get your SSN?

I asked a similar question a few days ago and people were sharing that they had no problems getting their SSN in the normal timeframe (around 7-10 days). Other people were recommending trying to have the SS# application made at an alternative location, but if the culprit is really SAVE there wasn't much you could do.

I'm very anxious about this too, because I have work lined-up and they won't wait forever. Pleaas keep us updated with your experience!

Well she told me that the local office wouldn't issue the SSN itself, but that the central HQ in Baltimore would be doing the verification and issuance of the SSN. So I think applying at an alternative location wouldn't really help. :(

Not sure how it could help but I just read on this page:

http://www.nafsa.org/findresources/Default.aspx?id=11154

(...) encounters a problem in obtaining a driver's license/Social Security number that appears to be a SAVE issue, the student may be able to resolve the issue by contacting the USCIS Verification Office for assistance:

E-mail Address:

Maybe giving them a call could help in some way?

Husband just called USCIS today and we got some unfortunate news. Our area, Milwaukee, is still processing June filers. So for a city as relatively small as Milwaukee, I can't imagine how backed up some other cities are. So anyone else in the Milwaukee area, they are still on June! :( Was hoping to have the green card by the summer, looks like it's going to be Autumn at the earliest provided we don't get an interview waiver.

I had this same experience. I went to change my name on my SS card the day after i received my EAD in the mail. It seems they just have not updated our info in the system so the headquarters has to check on it. In 2 weeks it will be 4 weeks since i went to the office so i will let you know what i hear))

For those still waiting on their social security card…. How have your employers reacted? I’m guessing you can’t get benefits until you have the number, but was it easy to communicate the situation to them?

You can still work while waiting for your SS. They will issue you a print out to present your employer. All the best
