We made it home last night!!!

Minneapolis POE was super easy. The first CBP was a bit grumpy and when my husband showed the flimsy white 'do not open' package (it traveled through 4 countries with no tears!) the agent said 'oh yay, another one'. He said my husband needs to go to the Passport Control room and wait for an officer there. I asked if I could go back with him and he said 'yea if you want, just warning you, you're going to be there for a while'. I made a joke that I'll just go home and get the car then. Went down like a led balloon!

We go to the room where I made another crack that we were sent to the principal's office. The second CBP heard me and said 'this is NOT the principal's office, this is the GOOD room!' He asked one question, when did we file. We said Sept 2013 and he said 'that's it?!' I gave him a Madea look and he said 'some people wait years for this!' I told him I was fully aware. Since I kept chiming in throughout the conversation, the CBP dude asked if my photo should be on the green card (while laughing). He said he tries to have a sense of humor and I told him it was appreciated as we've read horror stories. Naturally, he said don't believe everything we read.

Visa stamped, signed, and my husband finger printed. We asked about the social security card and he said they have no control over that, since it was completed on the DS-260 which is a DoS document (makes sense).

Hey VJ Friends,

I sent an email to the US Embassy in Egypt about police certificates & asked how long its taking them to schedule interview appointments and this is what they replied:

"as for the police certificate it is valid for one year, even if it says it is only for 3 months. As for the interview, the NVC determines that not the American Embassy.

I thought the US Embassy in Egypt was the one that scheduled the interview dates not NVC?? Any thoughts? Does this mean that maybe Cairo is caught up and they're back to normal interview scheduling?

No NVC schedules IR1/CR1 interviews. Your case doesn't get shipped off to embassy until that happens.

Hopefully scheduling will start up Tomorrow or maybe thursday for October slots.

However I have to say Egypt although last month was far better. It's still about a 3 to 5 month wait after case complete.

Case completed confirmed by phone on August 18th and received case complete email confirmation on August 21.. Now waiting for an interview date

GUYS!!!!! We finally got the application for a social security number through!! :joy:

Quick recap: POE was July 2 but no SSN arrived in the mail. We went to an office to apply and discovered my husband's name was entered incorrectly, which prevented him from applying. 1 horrific visit to USCIS, 4 chats with CBP, and 3 trips to SSA later, IT'S DONE! We're relieved beyond words. So much time, energy, and anguish went into fixing this issue... now on to figuring out why the green card hasn't arrived. But still, in the meantime,

Wow... nearly two months! It's like NVC all over again. Hopefully the GC comes with the correct name after all this effort.

Hi Everyone, ...So I have a problem...

My husband just went for an interview today and he was told that the joint sponsor is not enough. But it is well over the amount. Also they said that they do not believe that my joint-sponsor is going to sponsor, what should I do?

Did your joint sponsor make above the guideline last year as well as the current year?

And for them to say they don't believe that the joint-sponsor will sponsor is quite troubling like what would make them think that? Who sent in the Affidavit of support you or they sent their own in?

You may have to get another joint sponsor if they are saying they don't believe this sponsor is good enough get another. Sorry.

awww excellent how cool is that. So you got a taste of the immigration experience.

Finally we had our interview this morning and we were approved!!!!!!i can't even explain the joy we are feeling right now!!!!plus on the ceac website the status already changed to issued!!!thanks for all the support everyone )) and good luck to all next interviews!! :)

hey guys! can someone tell me what reasons qualify for a case to be expedited? Other than medical reasons.

Emergency, Humanitarian reasons, Deployment, life or death.

But there have been many others that many thought not qualified and they were approved. It is a case by case. And the embassy has final say. Some embassies are a bit more lenient in granting then others.

Sorry to hear of this unfortunate delay. I hope the decision was request of additional paperwork/new sponsor and not an outright denial.

Did the joint sponsor have too many in his/her household? Or sponsored others without declaring them and was caught out. I'm afraid you have to provide some personal details if you expect some meaningful help from this community. Otherwise, consider looking for a new/additional sponsor.

I think you'll get more responses from the NVC Filers thread. Traffic is relatively light here.

Yes they did not deny the visa but asked for more documents. I talked to my husband, the sponsor is above income needed but they were doubting if she is authentic or not.

Any updates about your interview? Did they Take the passport or what? And according to your previous comment I can see your friend is your sponsor , but why did you write as cousin in the letter you submitted at the interview. Hope nothing goes wrong. Hope they accept your sponsor paper.

I wrote cousin because she is very close to me and I thought it would not hurt to say she is my cousin. I am hoping to talk to her. It seems like they want a reason as to why she wants to help me if she is not my relative and show that I have a close relationship with her.

Yes, apparently they think that, since she is a friend, why would she co-sponsor, I am thinking of just having her write a letter or call the embassy to tell them that she has agreed to help me out even though she is not a relative. My dad was the first sponsor since I have no income and am a student but my dad does not have enough income so my friend wanted to help me. Hmm, I guess I will talk to her and if not I will have to find another joint sponsor. They said that it should be a relative, but I do not have any relatives other than my parents here who can sponsor so I am getting paranoid that they will not accept someone else as a joint sponsor who is not a relative.

Also my husband was telling me that the majority of the people he saw there were getting AP, since Bangladesh falls in one of the high fraud countries. Only like 2 or 3 of them actually were approved.

Hi Guys, I have a question. I want to pay the immigration fee in the elis online system after our visa is approved!

1. Should we enter the new name (married name)? So far NVC/US Embassy has used my wife unmarried name during interview commnication which is what appears on her passport.

2. The DOS case number is one digit long to fit in Elis online system..what should I do? Basically it is "01" added to NVC case number but there is no way to enter the last 1 in the online field. Did anyone else had the same problem?
