hello everyone my question is quite simple.

does hiring a lawyer from immigration expert law firm will really help or make things better ? what are the extra benefits from hiring one than not hiring one ?

The immigration process caused me PTSD.

What do you mean help?

Many hire lawyers if they feel they can;t do the paperwork themselves. Many hire a lawyer if they have legal issues (waivers, past immigration problems), thus the main reason to have a lawyer.

Filing out papers and mailing a lawyer usually has a paralegal or legal assistant to do that.

Lawyers DO NOT make the process faster. They do not get favoritism at USCIS, NVC or embassy.

However the plus as far as speed having a lawyer once your IR1/CR1 petition gets there there is no DS-261 to submit so you may save yourself 2 to 4 weeks. That's about it.

I know many who have had great lawyers and are happy and many who are not happy with their lawyers and learned more from coming here to VJ than their lawyer even knows.

If you understand the process fair enough, yet don't want to spend the time filling out the forms, then you can hire your own paralegal/legal assistant.

I utilize a paralegal in my department for many legal things, not just immigration, because I don't want to spend the time filling out the paperwork and her fee is less than my time is worth.

But in the end, it's your responsibility and you need to understand the process for yourself.

Most people say you don't need one. They say if you're a smart capable person, it's a waste of money.

But for me, it was a matter of peace of mind. The law firm guides me every step of the way.

For me it was to lessen the stress of filling things out wrong or forgetting things. Im the type that would worry endlessly. I, of course, check to make sure they filled out everything correctly, but they do the work. I don't have to second guess anything after I review things calmly. Id rather have them do it, and call it a day.

I agree with Novedsac. Even though I gain peace of mind with the lawyer, it was/is important to know the process. Even lawyers can get things wrongs, such as data entry typos, but it's soooo nice not to get flubbed up in all that paperwork. All I had to do was review the work.

It doesn't make any different, it even makes it slower, they have a lots of clients, if you call to ask questions they charge you, if you email them twice a week you get charged, you have no free communications with them, it cost more money and even hiring them doesn't guarantee anything, do it yourself and seek for help here and, hiring one Is just like your punishment you go through even before your documents goes to the appropriate office.

It all depends on your circumstances. We did hire a lawyer but that was our own personal choice. If you feel there is a particularly sticky area of the visa process that you need more guidance or legal help with then a Lawyer could be your answer. I suffer severe anxiety so having someone do all my paperwork, attend my green card interview and be at the end of the phone for me or have meetings with me at a drop of hat was MY way of making the process more smooth and less stressful. HOWEVER..... Immigration Attorneys are expensive. There have also been a few horror stories on VJ of Lawyers giving wrong advice and not doing what they were paid to do. I was lucky, I had an awesome Lawyer, but that's not always the case.

Add up the pro's and the con's of hiring one and decide if the fee's and the money is worth it. In our case, yes, it most definitely was worth it. But you can most certainly do it on your own if you have the right information and have a firm understanding of the process.

Good Luck

I had a set flat fee with my attorney which we could pay in installments each month. All emails, calls and meetings were free. That said... There are many that will charge by the hour, expect payment in full and will charge you $$$ for all communication

If you have money to burn or your time is precious sure go ahead and get the lawyer. I just received a checklist from the NVC, my first hiccup, and it was because I used a number off the W2 form instead of the 1040 form. A total of 20 cents difference on my I-864 form. Ive used VJ exclusively along with really reading all the information on the USCIS and NVC websites. If you can follow instructions and be sure to double and triple check your work you can save a few thousand dollars by doing it yourself.
