How is that different that an American school? For the most part I never got to pick my science it was Earth Science in 8th, Bio in 9th, AP Chem in 10th, and AP Physics and Anatomy and Physiology in 12th. In 11th, I tripled up my languages, so no science.

We used to have a weird math system in New York, but it culminated in Pre-Calc in 11th and Calc in 12th, etc.

As Ontarkie said, you have to take ALL the sciences until grade 11 and then they're broken down. So it's just science. Just like Math, almost all the way through is just Math, there is no algebra etc... You learn algebra but you have to learn everything else too. There is social studies for example where you study everything from geography to the world wars to culture and social events in other countries. Even in grade 11 and 12, it's still Biology, Chemistry, or Physics and whatever each science encompasses, it doesn't break down any further than that. So to learn anatomy, you have to take biology.

I find that everything you and my husband tells me, is that it's all broken down far sooner and you are more specialized before you even hit university or college level. It's very interesting. Not saying one is better than the other (other than our PE classes, unless that varies by state as well) but it's different so it really doesn't surprise me that parts of Europe are so much different either. I find it fascinating!
