Hands over her eyes and her face gripped with terror, the woman's fear of death is all too obvious.

The remarkable mummy was found in a hidden burial vault in the Amazon.

It is at least 600 years old and has survived thanks to the embalming skills of her tribe, the Chachapoyas or cloud warriors.

Well, to me it looks like she was buried with her hands tied to her face or neck. The jaw naturally falls open after death, that may explain the open mouthed look. *shrugs*. We interpret her mummy as being scared of death...but it HAS been 600 years, alot can happen to a body in that time to give it that appearance.

Beat me to it. Plus, she was embalmed; that's not normally the sort of thing done while alive to freeze you like you're in carbonite. It looks to me like the skin has tightened and receded, baring the teeth.
