$985 fee?

exactly my thinking? I'll be interesting to find out!!!!!!

I talked to JR this morning and told me that I can call as much and as often as I want to check on the status of my application.

The $985 fee is the adjustment of status fee. I've given my case to a lawyer and that's what he told me how much that fee is....hopefully he's wrong?

If you're getting an IR/CR visa, you don't need to adjust status.

Are you thinking maybe the removal of conditions?

Thanks for adding us Saylin. Our case was at NBC and then was transfered to CSC in December 2013.

Regards

Updated! Thanks for letting me know.

Congrats on getting pinned Saylin! hehe kicking.gif

Thank you! Don't know why, but it's made me giddy XD

2 random questions.

1. Once AOS and IV package is sent how long does it take to hear back about a scheduled interview? (mine's going to the Dominican Republic)

2. When is the $985 fee due? Before or after the interview?

Thank you all!!

1. Well, it's taking around 15 or so business days to review packages. Once both are accepted, then the case is completed. Time frames from case complete to interview vary by country. You can do your own research for the DR on that here: http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list.php?cfl=0&op1=3&op2=d&op3=5&op4=1&op5=5,6,8,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,108,110,111,208,210,211&op6=All&op66=All&op7=Dominican%20Republic&dfile=No&adv=

2. There is no $985 fee for IR-1/CR-1 applicants. You don't do AOS (adjustment of status). I'd be extremely wary of your lawyer if he's talking about this. There will be a ROC (removal of conditions) process in 2 years from POE (if you've been married under 2 years), but that's only about $600.

Two questions:

A joint sponsor can be anyone who agrees to support the immigrant, right? My understanding is that it does not have to be a relative or someone in the household, but while going over the forms with my joint sponsor this weekend, he made me second-guess that... My joint sponsor is my mother's boyfriend- they never married nor do they live together but he has been a father to me for a long time. There is no legal record of their relationship nor anything for me to use to prove our relationship (besides the fact that he's listed as the preparer of my taxes since he's also my accountant wink.png )- so he will seem like a random choice... will this cause any problems in the NVC process? or will they not care so long as someone agrees to be financially responsible?

My joint sponsor also only wants to give his most recent tax transcript and will not include an employment letter. Obviously I can't force him to give all 3 and he feels the letter is unnecessary because he's been at the same job for 10 years with the same salary; which is well above the poverty line. I am hoping if he only sends the 1 transcript without employment letter and the transcript is the same as his current income and the same income as the many years before listed on the I-864, that the NVC won't checklist us for more evidence. Is that risky? Thoughts?

Doesn't matter who the joint sponsor is; it could be a random person you meet at a bar for all they care. As long as they're a US citizen/resident and over the age of 18.

Although pay stubs and an employment letter are technically optional, NVC may still request them in a checklist, so be careful. But, if he's been at the same job for that long, the chances are higher it won't be requested.

thanks!! I will call again!! hwn i called the lady asked for my receipt number aslo and when i gave it to her, she told me is not in the system yet and i need to call back in 6 weeks):

Its like USCIS, they are only allowed to say a certain script which seems to vary between 6 and, as i was told, 8 weeks. Depending on service centre it can take 5-10 days to reach them....... then you wait about 30 working days to get a case number.

USCIS

If your brother isn't a US citizen or resident, then he's not eligible to be a joint sponsor.

If your uncle is a permanent resident, then he can be a joint sponsor. He'll just have to explain why he doesn't have 2012 or 2011 income (due to only moving here in 2013).

Thanks, Saylin. I am worried about taking the risk but what can I do...I can only hope for the best. I mean, if they look at all at his background or even the consistency of the numbers on the I-864, it should not be a problem since he's almost 50, and has been at the same job with high and consistent income for 20 yrs. I guess I should stop stressing about every little detail :P

One more question- I had sent a copy of our marriage cert with the I-130 and I understand I must now send an original with the IV package. However, I sent the original translation and translator's certification with the I-130 as well so now I only have a copy of these documents to send with the original marriage cert. Is that going to be a problem? Should I find my translator and pay for a new one?

I am the petitioner (USC). My husband is Senegalese.

NVC's website doesn't state if original or copies of translations are sufficient. You may want to call up a few times and ask, then see what the majority answer is.
