I've been reading a lot of stories on this forum about visa scammers men/women. Some of these stories are quite sad and horrific. But I've also noticed that most of the ppl complaining about their scammer spouses/fiancees don't have photos on their avatar. Why not change their avatar to a photo of the scamming spouse/fiancee and OUT these evil scammers so future potential mates will know who to be wary of?

Because I think they don't want their posts to be found by the scammer.

Didn't California just create a law against revenge photo posting.

How exactly would that help anyway? It isn't like there is a small pool of repeat scammers that people are falling for.

People just need to be more aware and not let "love" get in the way of their common sense, someone posted a list of warning signs on a recent thread and that should be stickied and expanded upon.

FWIW, we have tried over the years to make such a thing and it gets shot down...

and, making such a list might just be helpful to scammers. So they can help avoid those things...

A rogues gallery with photographs would turn VJ into even more of a tabloid newspaper meets chat show plus there are potential issues with people naming their ex a scammer out of bitterness at being dumped.

I think the warning signs idea is good although in the year I've been on here I've noticed a number of threads where people were obviously being scammed and everyone could see it except the poster themselves. When you are convinced you are in love you will ignore any warning signs.

A thread with stories from people who have been scammed would be helpful, so that ideally common and maybe even some uncommon red flags can be identified by interested parties and would be a living document, however a who's who of faces will serve little purpose.

The potential for abuse would be significant. Imagine this scenario. A guy brings over his SO from (insert country here) He beats her on a daily basis and she splits (as she should) Now the bitter pr!ck wants to post her photo all over VJ because he's pi$$ed she left the abusive relationship. There's no real way to verify the true story of what actually happened.

And truly what is the point? Even if they were a marriage scammer, they've got their pay off now, they're in the USA. Who are you warning away from them? Its not like they need to run a marriage scam again to get in the USA.

Whenever I see a post on VJ where one party is complaining about another party, I automatically assume the old literary trope that the poster is an unreliable narrarator. We only ever get half the story and I swear that for every story that rings true there's a second story that is from a 55 year old man complaining while shocked that his 22 year old Filipina was just using him for a green card. Or a "My husband SUDDENLY decided to start abusing me... do I have a case against him?"*

My point here is, doing something like showing photos, or having a blacklist is of VJrs is potentially a hotbed of assertions, lies, or stories that are obviously exaggerated.

*That's not to say that allegations of abuse should be taken lightly, but often these stories are circumstantial and often libelous at best and it is not OUR job to pass judgement one way or another.
