Consulate Review: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Event Description
Review Date : January 3, 2014
Embassy Review : went here for my sons consular report of birth aboard. First off they let us in with a baby stroller and diaper/formula bag. No issues. There is no need to take a number. As far as I can tell they just call through the list of names that are on appointment and the first to answer gets helped first.

I had a ton of evidence to show that the baby was mine but the only things required were original documentation. Official red stamped photo copies of each and the official red stamped English translations of all papers. They kept all the red stamped copies so you may want to get extra while your doing these documents at the VN offices.

I only had to interview at the window. Other couples had to interview in the private room but they missing important things like babies and birth certificates. The only additional evidence required on top of the official forms were some photos of me and the wife when we met, I didn't even get to wedding photos or the baby photos.

They asked the following:
1. How did you meet.
2. Where did you meet.
3. What town is your wife from.
4. Have you meet her family.
5. What are her parents like.
6. Are you married and where.
7. How does your family in the US feel about your wife and son.
8. Do you have any photos of you and wife together.
9. What do you do for a living.
10. Do you currently live in Vietnam.
11. Is the baby here. (she sees the baby) He looks just like you! I think that sealed the deal.
12. Did you file an I-130 for your wife.
13. Does your wife speak English. She does but is not fluent.

I'm then informed that we are approved and we would receive the CRBA and passport in 2-3 weeks and SS Card in 6 months. The CO then tells me that if my wife is not English fluent I should go with her when it's time for the visa interview and we won't have any issues as she had no doubt of our relationship. Overall it was a good experience.

Just to add on here once approved on December 26th we paid for the EMS shipping of our sons CRBA and passport to our house in HCMC. We got an e-mail that said both were ready on January 3rd and EMS delivered both on January 4th, a Saturday. Good Stuff.
