Three Teens Arrested for Waiting While Black

The officer asked the teens to disperse, but they explained that they were waiting to be picked up by a bus. The officer again asked the teens to disperse.

"We tried to tell them that we were waiting for the bus," Wan'Tauhjs told WHEC. "We weren't catching a city bus, we were catching a yellow bus. He didn't care. He arrested us anyways."

The three were charged with with disorderly conduct and obstructing the sidewalk.

While they were being handcuffed, their coach, Jacob Scott, arrived at the scene and attempted to reason with the cop.

"He goes on to say, 'If you don't disperse, you're going to get booked as well," Scott recalled. "I said, 'Sir, I'm the adult. I'm their varsity basketball coach. How can you book me? What am I doing wrong? Matter of fact, what are these guys doing wrong?'"

Police say they were blocking the sidewalk and the entrance to a store and they say they told the teens to leave several times. But according to the officer, the teens did not move from the area. The three teens were then placed under arrest.

I got kicked out of the mall for loitering when I was a teenager because my friend and I had not bought anything yet. My mom got pretty mad and came down to the mall to ask why old people were encouraged to go to the mall and exercise by walking and a teenager could not do the same. My mom rocks.

So, I am not so sure it's for them being black, but maybe for them being teenagers. Teenagers are such a menace, right?

Either way, ridiculous, but...

um. they were waiting on a friggin school bus. are you seriously saying this was justified?

OK - I've read the first URL.

It's going to be better for that bus driver to move the bus stop 10 meters in either direction, for future bus pickups.

The City of Rochester is a very dangerous place, especially for magnet high school students.

From the newscast: The owner of the store had called several times about people fighting and blocking the entrance to the store.. It was under increased scrutiny and being watched by the police due to the past reports.

Seems like the whole thing would have been avoided by the police saying "Excuse me fellas, can you move this down a few yards, your blocking the entrance... Thanks."
