NAACP keeping up pressure in Trayvon Martin case

WASHINGTON (AP) NAACP President Ben Jealous said Monday his organization collected petitions with more than 1.7 million signatures calling for charges to be filed against George Zimmerman for violating Trayvon Martin's civil rights.

Jealous said the signatures, about a million of which came in by mobile phone and many from young people, would be turned over to the Department of Justice on Monday afternoon.

The NAACP signatures would be in addition to another 219,000 handed over to the Justice Department last week by ColorOfChange, an online civil rights group.

A Justice Department spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment or independently confirm receipt of the signatures.

I continue to feel, on a personal level, that the shooting was caused by GZ. However the court and its jury found him not guilty of the charge brought, including the lesser included, time to let it go.

Because it would cost them their a&& if they lose. Florida law states that if you file a civil suit in a justifiable homicide case and lose - you pay all court and defense costs.

If a civil suit is filed the first thing that Omara will do is file for a declaration of immunity from the court. Since GZ was found not guility, the declaration would be almost automatic. That is why he all but dared them to file a civil suit at the end of the criminal trial.

Update today - the state of Florida will probably have to reimburse GZ for his expenses during the trial.

The legal system is built to pillage & plunder you and I to feed the treasure trove of fat cat lawyers.

Both Don West and Mark Omara worked pro bono on the case. However, had they been paid, the billable hours would have been in excess of $1,200,000.00. Mark Omara has stated that if GZ is sued civally - he will defend GZ again pro bono.

Mark Omara - $400 per billable hour
