Hi everyone! I'm back!!

So I've been in California for almost 2 weeks now. And according to the flow chart it says I have to get SSN before I get married. On the other hand I've been reading forums about how getting married before getting SSN will save me from having to change my single name to my married name on the SSN card.

Any ideas? I would appreciate anything.

We waited until after we were married before heading to SSA, and had zero issues, card arrived about two after applying and in my wife's married name. Done.

Get it before you get married. Here's an example of why: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/442017-ssn-told-i-cant-apply-for-one-as-married-on-k1-visa/

You should be able to do it either way. You have to go back anyways when you get your EAD and when you get your green card.

Should doesn't mean can. it's always better to apply before marriage "just in case" you get a moron.

we are planning to apply for ssn after getting married so that we dont need to go back at ssa to do the name change..

Please see posts above

i felt bad for what the OP in that thread had experienced with the first ssa office she went to.. i hope we won't encounter any problems like what happened to her. if in case, atleast we knew the other options.thanks for the link..

Ya know - I'm gonna follow you - each time you write this stuff.

Why? It's #######. You're giving false hope to folk , leading them to believe that what worked for your wife will work for all.

It's not that way, at all.

You got exceptionally lucky. USUALLY, when folk apply in the married name (K-1 visa holders) within the 90 days on the I-94, a properly trained SSA staffer will send the stuff out for DHS Verification.

That was skipped, with you and yer wife.

I hope you realize how exceptionally lucky you were. I also hope that you stop repeating 'your story' as the gospel.

It's not the gospel. It doesn't work (mostly). You and your wife were exceptionally lucky, IMO bullying a SSA staffer to make it happen without the SAVE db lookup.

I ask you stop repeating your story, as it's not the way it's supposed to be done at any SSA office.

Thanks in advance !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
