I got b2 visa (1 year M entry) after saying during the interview that I'm planning to visit New York for 2-3 weeks.

I said that to look just like the average tourist. My real plans are too stay in the u.s. for about 5 months and visit multiple states (backpacking trip)

What are the chances of being sent back home at the gate of entry if they see that my return flight is in 5 months? Can the agents at the airport see what I've declared during my visa interview?

They can, but if you are able to explain why your planes have changed (and of course they could change) esp. since you have 1 year visa, I don't think you should have problems.

Tho they could give you one year visa, to see if you're truthful and if you'd stay as long as you said you would.

As long as you can show you have the funds, your chances of being let in are very high.

Ty both for your answers. As far as you know how common is the fact of being sent back home for b2 visa holders by the airport agents? And what are the most used reasons?

How much money should i carry in order to enter for 5 months? Ty again

( is there any big thread discussing this topic? )

I don't know about carrying money I person western union myself reserves so that if something happens I can get more money ( lost wallet , emergency ) but you should be able to show find of 1000-2000 a month. Denials are frequently for visitors that look like they are going to work, stay ( wedding dress in suitcase ) or just left and aren't staying out of the US long enough

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I was denied entry twice - both ties for lack of ties to my home country. Canada and the US have very lax regulations regarding tourist border crossings. I took it for granted. When I was asked for ties that I was returning to Canada, I didn't have any.

What ties can you produce incase you are asked? Possession of a valid tourist visa does not guarantee entrance into the US

good luck

Why are you not eligible for the VWP?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
