About Me: I'm a US Citizen petitioning for my spouse who lives overseas in the Dominican Republic.

1. Filed my I-130 in February. The first 3 digits of my case number: MSC

2. Received my appointment letter May 30.

3. Had my appointment today July 5.

I was super excited when reading the forums before this appointment. Most people indicated that after you get your appointment letter, your appointment will be in like 30 days and then you are very close to completion of the process.

However, based on all that I read, I was expecting an interview of some sort. But when I arrived today, they simply asked me for the paperwork requested on the appointment form (marriage certificate, birth certificate, photos, etc). I was in and out within 10 minutes.

They gave me no information on the next steps. Just said that they will be in touch.

I'm sort of disappointed right now as I have no idea what's going on. Was this my interview? Is there another one coming in the near future? Or far future? Has anyone else had to come in to drop off these documents prior to a formal interview? Or am I really close to the end of this process and I'm weeks away from being able to bring my wife home?

I need some answers. Appreciate all your help!

I really tried my best to follow the steps provided on their website, but this is all they ask for someone to do:

Ensure the form is not missing information. The relationship between the petitioner and the beneficiary must be indicated in Part A. The petitioner’s name, complete address, marital status, and country of birth must be provided in Part B. The beneficiary’s name, complete address, marital status, and country of birth must be provided in Part C.

As the petitioner, sign the form in Part E.
Submit the correct filing fee of $420.
If you live in the United States or its territories, make the check or money order payable to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (not "USDHS" or "DHS").
For Express mail and courier deliveries:
USCIS
Attn: I-130

E-Notification: If you want to receive an e-mail and/or a text message that your Form I-130 has been accepted at a USCIS Lockbox facility, complete Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance and clip it to the first page of your application. Form G-1145 can be downloaded through the link above.

Oh okay i know some local USCIS offices are interviewing petitioners. Since you sent in nothing. You re very blessed to not have been out and out denied and your $420 kept.

Where is your G325 forms. Passport pics did you have that when you went in? No way to really tell your time like It's a long process 5 to 7 months just at USCIS. Than 2 to 4 months at NVC than interview. So you have a wait.

And for Dominican Republic, it is advised that you (the petitioner) should be present at your wife's embassy interview.

No. I didn't submit any documents with the I-130. I didn't know I was supposed to. I just filled out the I-130 and sent that document along with the payment.

Did I really miss a step? The form didn't mention to send any documents.

You missed a big step.

Does the USCIS now have everything they need or do you still need to give them items? If you do I suggest making an INFOPASS appointment and making sure they have photocopies of everything in the instructions and also of any relationship evidence you have. I agree with Dwheels that you were lucky not to be out your money and denied. I wish you'd found us earlier!

But at least you were able to submit items after the fact. I hope it goes smoother for you from now on. :)
