Hey! I'm a girl from Finland and I've dated my american boyfriend for over a year now. I didn't think about marriage before but the last time I came in the us the police officers at the airport told me that I can't constantly come to the us to visit my boyfriend and I have to get a visa or get married with him. In Finland the visiting limit is 3 months a year, so we're in a bad situation right now.

I started to think about the marriage with my boyfriend but reading other people's stories online it seems like many people use their time and money and still get denied in the end.

So tell me is it possible to get married and spend more time with the person you love?

If you have legitimate relationship, there is nothing to worry about. Question is - are you ready to move to US, because what he was talking about was applying for permanent residency.

It will still take about a year though.

Of course it is possible!

If you have a true relationship without any issues in the past (overstays, previous misrepresentaitons, lots of previous marriages, sex crimes, gun or drug convictions, etc) then there are lots of people who have successfully completed the journey

good luck

Welcome to VJ!

If your relationship is real you shouldn't worry very much about being denied. Some countries with highest fraud cases have a much harder consulate and higher cases of denied visas.

You have two roads: apply for a Fiance Visa and get married in US or get married and apply for a spouse visa.

There are many topics about which one is best, it depends on your opinion/situation (I, for example, didn't want to be married and live apart..), so if you search on VJ forum you will see different views, financial benefits one over the other, etc.

Once you decide for which one you want to go for, read the guides very well and prepare your documents. And of course you can come back here with questions :)

Welcome to the forum.

Of course it is possible to get married and spend more time with the person you love. There are a plethora of success stories in these forums of that very thing happening. For us the key to success, is to laugh a lot, listen to each other, be patient, and be tolerant. We wanted to find a good person to grow old and gray together, much like the two swans that spend their lives together….. 鸳鸯鸟 [yuan yang niao] - That is in essence the meaning of the symbols underneath our profile picture. The journey actually helped us grow closer together.

Do your homework. Carefully, and thoroughly read the GUIDES (accessible at the top of the forum page), the official government instructions, and forum postings. The GUIDES are a great wealth of information, and the shared culmination of numerous folks that have successfully made that immigration journey together.

The journey is not for the faint or uncertain of heart, or light of wallet. However, the rewards are certainly worth it. Here is but one recent great success story:

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Don't jump into marriage unless you're ready for a lifelong commitment and know that he's "the one". If you do, rest assured that you'll have no problem obtaining a fiance or a spousal visa from Finland- the wait times are loooooooong and the documentation requirements are ridiculous but the process is completely doable, with the help of guides at this website. Good luck!

No you have to make a decision about your collective future and file for that visa and wait out the required time.
