Just a question of curiosity, As many of us feel the frustrations of the long waiting process, to be with our loved ones at last, After filing the I-129F, has anyone ever decided to get married before their interview? If this were to happen, what would the consequences be, and would this mean you'd ultimately have to cancel the I-129F and begin a new petition for a spouse? Of course, if that were the case, waiting for the interview first is the best solution, but just curious if anyone has done this before, and their feed back on it.

Thanks everyone

? If you marry you are no longer eligible for the K1 fiance visa. Your petition is invalid and you must start from scratch with the CR1. You can refer to the guides for what involved with that, but it basically takes about 9 months. You start by filing the 130 for your foreign spouse, you wait for the NOA1, then the NOA2, they need a medical again if their medical expired, then they have to wait for a interview.

If youre close to the interview its a bad move and will cause you a long delay, if you just filed the 129f and decided youd rather get married now rather then wait, then you only lost a minimal amount of time.

Theres no converting of petitions from fiance to spousal.

You would have to file (again) for the correct visa, reset and then restart the waiting clock. :clock:

Not me, but I have seen it several times on here. People either did it because of family pressure, or because they anted to get married on a specific date and the K1 visa hadn't come through yet, or on impulse, or because the female is pregnant and they wanted to be married when the child is born. It happens.

You'd need to start again- new petition for CR-1, new fees, new waiting.

Thank you all for your encouragement and wisdom. Often, it feels like such a long journey, and although I know it is best to wait it out, sometimes just voicing it out helps us make sense of it all, and helps us keep it in the right perspective. We are guessing our interview will be between June and July, and with spring fast approaching, summer will be here sooner than we think.

Wishing all you VJers the best luck and prayers for success.

If you marry at any point before entering the US on the k1 visa (so before or after interview) your visa is void and you need to process a K1. Approval of the K1 visa doesn't mean you can get married and still enter the US on the K1. You MUST enter the US unmarried and marry in the US.
