Hey!

On Friday we went to the consulate to file our petition. Everything went pretty good, until they said they need evidence that our marriage is legit NOW. (I had the information that we'll need that for the interview but oh well....)

We don't have joint accounts and no joint proberty /lease. No kids or anything. So, what we would send is following:

3 photo albums (wedding pics, pics from our traveling and etc.)

we live in off post housing (my husband is in the Army) and it's only listed that he lives here "with dependent" but I'm not mentioned with my full name.

So we would get housing to write us something, confirming that we both live in our house.

We will get affidavits from my mom, our neighbors and one of my husbands co-worker. I thought it would be good, if its from 3 different "parts" of our life.

My question is: What else could I send? And: Is there something I can't send? I mean those 3 photo albums are heavy so I would send a big package full of evidence. Does the consulate care? I couldn't find anything on the website. (Btw, we're filing in Frankfurt, Germany).

Oh and I read that people sent like printed out Facebook-Chats and Emails...My husband doesn't feel good about the consular knowing what we talk to each other. Should we still send it?

Thanks in advance!! :)

You don't need 3 albums full of pictures lol. A dozen or so pictures taken at different times is good. Birthday cards? Joint credit cards? Insurance policies listed you as beneficiary? Pension statements listed you again as beneficiary? Military dependent ID? Other little insignificant stuff that you can think of will be significant to the Consulate.

If he is in the military you must be on his insurance right? What about credit cards?

Good luck

Keep in mind also, that you don't need to send the actual "body" of the emails between you, but could print the "inbox" page or something along those lines to show the date and the subject line. You could also send a select few emails showing the evolution of your relationship.

Do you have any Christmas cards addressed to the both of you that were mailed (with envelopes)? Life insurance policies (I just printed out mine listing my husband to add to our evidence pile.), is your marriage registered officially with your country (some countries like this--we have started the process with my husband's country), do you have any documents showing a name change (ss card, ID, club memberships, professional liscense, etc), what about a joint cell phone account where you are listed as part of the same family?

I feel your frustration because it seems like there is nothing that is "legit enough" to actually prove your heart's commitment that you haven't already provided.

Edited to add:

There is nothing that 1000 photos will "prove" that 10 won't do. More, more, more of the same exact thing is just the same thing.

We just sent joint bank account, my military spouse ID, 8 photos at various stages of our relationship (we'd only been together 9 months though at that stage and didn't live together) and we printed Skype logs just showing the length of our conversations as we were long distance apart from our visits together.

The fact you both live together is a huge thing - so something saying you live with him is probably the only other thing you need.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Well I guess sending 3 photo albums is too much lol So I'm gonna go through the pics and pick out the most important ones, showing different stages of our life together.

We couldn't get anything from housing, stating we live together. He's the soldier so the "family housing" is just in his name.

We got a affidavit from his co-worker, copy of his life insurance, command sponsorship, joint bank account (we asked the bank if they could put my name on it now and just print something out. Good thing it doesn't show a date since when we have that account together lol), copy of our car registration, and my military ID.

is that enough?

We don't have joint credit cards or anything else that's joint.

Thanks for your help!

are you on his pcs orders?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Everything they said is great :)

With photos, choose ones that show your relationship across the years. Put captions with dates and locations, too.

Your husband should print out the page on his insurance where he cites you as beneficiary. Send copies of envelopes, postcards, packages that has you, your husband and both of you named as recipients... This is to show you do live in the same house. Make sure dates and names are legible enough to be read. If there are major transactions, like a car or an investment account, that has you two sharing, send copies of that proof, too :)

And oh, remember to send only copies unless indicated they want originals. :)

of those differences between us, for it is not difference which immobilizes us, but silence.
And there are so many silences to be broken.”
