Hi y'all. I have a situation and I don't know what to do about it. I hope I can explain it without making it confusing. It's about my employer. For privacy reasons I'm going to make up fake company names to explain it to you. I work for Orbit Retail. They are owned by XYZ Inc. On the form G325a I have already submitted, I listed my employer as XYZ Inc. And their address 1234 main street, some city, any state. Now I'm preparing my papers for the I-134 so they'll be ready when I need them. I noticed that on my 2010 and 2011 W2 and 2010 and 2011 federal tax forms and transcripts it says my employer is Creative Imaging, and a completely different address. Creative Imaging is the company that did our payroll. I don't understand why they are listed as the employer but they are. So... the problem is, it's not going to match what I wrote on the G325a. THEN... Starting Jan 1 2012 we had a new payroll company. I don't know what this 2012 W2 will say because I haven't received it yet. But I know it won't say Creative Imaging. AND NOW... Orbit Retail lays us off every year in the winter and I want to work instead of drawing unemployment (because I can't afford to risk being unemployed when I need to send an employment letter to my fiance for the interview)so I have found a new job and I begin in a week. I will send a letter of employment from this new company. I think I might stay with them because they are more steady. I put XYZ Inc. on my G325a and nothing else has XYZ Inc. on it. Will they wonder about this? Will it be a problem? And my employment letter will have yet another comany name. What should I do? Thanking you in advance.

At interview make sure there is an updated G325A and you have a letter of explanation. No big deal many of us work for XYZ company but ABC company pays the bills. Just explain in letter and have ready with updated G325A.

Its the amount you earn, not what company pays it. A letter is good, but there should not be a problem as long as you have three years tax returns.

Ask your hr admin from the old company so you explain the w2 properly maybe a good idea.

It's very possible your employer used a payroll service where you are technically employed by the payroll company so you can benefit from larger group for insurance services.

For example. Adp has a service called totalsource that does this. Your wages are paid under the ID number of the or company.

My husband and i are the same. He works for A company, which is a smaller off-shoot of B company. I expect his W2 would say B company, but he would tell you he works for A company.

i got my W2 yesterday. I work for a company called (fake name) Smith & Smith... or so I thought. My W2 says John Smith and then the same work address. So I expect Smith & Smith is just the trading name, not the business name... probably the same for you.
