*** One post with language unsuitable for VJ and one quoting said post removed. Surely you can make your argument without resorting to swearing and name calling? ****

But where's the fun in THAT?

I'm sure they'll be bummed to find out they have to drive their cabs an extra day a year to make up for the shortfall.

2% of 50 work weeks in a year (accounting for 2 weeks of vacation) is a whole work week being taken away from them. So about 5 days of work to make up for it. 2% doesn't sound like a lot at first, but it is. Though I don't want to get into the politics of whether it's a tax hike or just a tax holiday discontinued. The result is the same. It will be more difficult for middle and lower class people having an extra 2% withheld from their pay checks. Though I'm neither for nor against the dems in this regard. They ran on a balanced approach and the people wanted it.

HR Rant - just cause I need to say it:

This has NOTHING to do with any middle/higher/executive boss in any business. This is a payroll change based on the government. Why on earth put the boss in the middle of this. This was not a business decision either. Again, why does HR seem to shirk the responsibility of explaining a procedural/legal change that a supervisor has no control of - placing the anger/blame/mistrust/"oh they're out to screw us again" feelings against the boss/supervisor.

Without fail, in the majority of places I've worked, this kind of bad news always seems to be delegated to someone who shouldn't be put in that position - I don't understand why anyone would think it is in the best interest of supervisor/subordinate relations to have someone not causing the issue to explain their will be less money in the next pay check. In this type of case [rate change in with-holdings], HR should step up and take the heat.

Where I work, this was an "HR Note" in the intranet.

Cause my first my opening work meeting starts at 6:30 AM.. Way to early for the prissy office folks to sully themselves with.

There was no announcement on this in my firm. Not when the payroll tax holiday started, not when it was twice extended and not when it ended. I guess we're expected to keep up with these things on our own. Of course, we don't fill dish soap into bottles around here either.
