Bunch of VJ members ( 2 Bangladeshi, 1 Greec) are on this situation & I would like to give this very topc a final kick. Assume you show up for Infopass fingers crossed to get I-551 stamped on passport but USCIS says you don't need it since you have expired GC & NOA1. How do you convince them? PLEASE SOMEONE GIVE AN HONEST AND WORTHY FEEDBACK (sorry for the caps, it's itentional out of desperation).

I'm confused. If one has an expired green card but an NOA1 for removal of conditions, which should include a statement about authorized work and travel, why is a I551 stamp necessary?

If one is not needed, why are convincing words necessary?

Good luck

Countries like Bangladesh/Pakistan with morons working at the airport, NOA1 to them is of no use. It's simple as this ............. You have a green card, visa.. ok get on plane... you have expired card with NOA1....ummmmm we never heard of it, sorry get off the plane.

Well explain it to them that way, I am sure you 3 are not the 1st 3 who believes they will have such an encounter at the airport.

Based on what you have stated, many should have gone before you with the same concerns.

Why this idea didn't come in my head :bonk: I will surely tell I can't find it (NOT I have lost it). Matter of fact I will get a copy of the original NOA1 & say I have copy but not the original (I can't find it). I want to see how can they deny us I-551. You have saved me from sleepless nights. God bless you whoever you are.

Thanks.

don't take a copy, they might tell you weel you have the copy we won't give you the stamp. Tell them you lost it, or the embassy of your country lost it because you needed to renew passport. then when interview comes, the embassy found it and sent it back to my address.

Lets assume I say that we lost it, what if USCIS then marks a no fly flag on my wife? Saying we can't find it will still leave us with the option to travel with original NOA1 letter. If they ask something during POE, we will say we found it under our blanket |o|. I would still love to get feedback from you in this regard (if any).

Thanks.

a no fly flag is made by the FBI or the airlines, your stamp is for traveling and work. Unfortunatly I can't find my NOA1 so I need to a stamp because I'm traveling to my home country and here is my ticket. at the port if they ask you what happened to your NOA1 tell them I lost it, or I found it when my wife was cleaning the house. They will not put a no fly flag on your wife. She has a green card. Many people lose their driver's license, social security card, and other important papers. Unfortunatly you lost the NOA1, they will stamp the I 551 for you. If you have any more questions feel free to ask I will be here for awhile.

Thanks for the reply again. Like you just said "Unfortunatly I can't find my NOA1" is the key work & NOT "I have lost it". In common sense, a LOST item is something gets thrown off the record & are considered as gone forever. I don't want to give USCIS that impression. I will simply say we moved to new house (which is true by the way) 2 months ago & during the moving process the original NOA1 got mixed up other stuff. We will keep looking for it & hope to find it soon. We need I-551 because our travel date is almost there & don't have any other option now.

Regards to copy of NOA1, we won't declare it unless being asked for. But I would still carry the copy during Infopass & leave the original in a safe deposit box at home |o|

Thanks.

That's good you sound convincing that way, by the way don't show them the copy until you feel it's necessary to show them that . Good luck.

Hey guys, let's all lie to USCIS and be paranoid that we won't be allowed to do something people do every day.

The blind leading the blind here!

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

You don't have to convince them, you just need to ask and they will stamp the passport, just say you are traveling abroad and that is it. They won't question why you need the stamp if your letter is still valid.

^ This. Explain your concerns and where you are heading, escalate within your local office [if needed - which I doubt].
