your port of entry would be the first American airport you arrive that, in your case, it will be Detroit.

good.gif Correct.

Detroit will be the first airport on US soil, and therefore your POE.

New York will be your final destination.

Not a problem at all. We are thinking of POE-ing in the Virgin Islands for a wedding before going onwards to Connecticut.

As many others have said Detroit is your first POE, when you stop in Japan, I assume you are going through Nagoya you will only get off the plane, and go through a security checkpoint then to your gate, you will have time for a quick bite to eat and shopping then off to Detroit. Detroit is pretty easy to get through, is your fiancé going to be with you? You will clear immigration then they will take your bags and put them on the flight to JFK. Good luck

Let's paint this picture, shall we?

Let's say your POE was NY and not Detroit good.gif At the last minute, you had to change your flight and now your POE would be Miami instead of NY good.gif Would the person at the hospital who did your medical care or even have ANYTHING to do with the process? no0pb.gifcool.gif

So, do not worry about it.
